Summer 2015: FIBA games of Utah Jazz players

The guy who looked most like G-time was one of Germany's wings - Paul Zipser. He's 21, looked to be about 6'7" and very athletic. Only scored 6 pts (one bucket on a very impressive driving dunk in traffic), but that's double what the Turkish version of Hayward scored.

Keep in mind Korkmaz just turned 18. Any minutes with the first team of his country are good for him.

Germany got it close in the second half and then played Pleiss down the stretch. With the game tied at 65 and about 45 seconds to play, a Turkey guard attacked the basket, Pleiss contested, he missed, Germany got the rebound and then Pleiss scored the go ahead dunk to make the score 67-65. Germany won the game 68-66, Pleiss finishing with 14 pts, 3 rebs. His 14 were good for second on the team.

Did he get matched against Ilyasova a lot during the game? How did he do against him?

Hard to say. I only saw Pleiss for about 8 of his 25 minutes. I wasn't able to watch the entire game and I was pretty unlucky in terms of when Pleiss was in the game - saw about 4 minutes of Pleiss in the 1st half and about 3-4 minutes of him in the second half. There was one play where he came out to contest a three by Ilyasova, EI drove by him, he couldn't quite recover and Ilyasova dumped off to a teammate for an easy layup.

The bottom line defensively, is that Pleiss will struggle on the perimeter, but almost any guy his size will struggle defending out there - I think about a guy like Rik Smits who would be a rich man's Pleiss - he couldn't defend out there to save his neck. Most 7'3"+ guys, unless they are freak athletes will have a hard time defending the 3 point line. The question with Pleiss is whether he can make people pay on the other end with offensive rebounding and scoring in the paint - and I think he has a chance to do that.

I love how Pleiss rolls hard to the basket.

I only watched the final several minutes of the game, but Pleiss had a dunk in the clutch for the win. Seems like Turkey went ahead in the first but Germany got back in the game in the second half.

Tibor with 14 pts, 3 rbs, 1 blk in 25 mins. 7/7 shooting.

Yeah, I can see why you would want to freeze a guy like that out of the offense. . .

How's Korkmaz look? NBAdarft.net thinks his player comparison is Gordon Hayward.

Turkey is gonna be no joke in these international competitions moving forward.

they've been steadily talented for what, the past ten years? Talent is always there, the coaching isn't.

European leagues don't work like college basketball.

this. Stifle Tower is kinda freakign out about nothing here. It's just a comp, dude. Easy.

Besides, Rubio was averaging hilariously low assist numbers before he got to the NBA, and ppl would point to it being all like "his passing is overrated!!!!". Dude comes here, averages almost 10.

Just checked it, Rubio was getting like 4-5 apg in 22 minutes.....

His shooting efficiency was awful though and it's still awful.
