Summer 2019 Roster Discussion

I keep saying it... The Jazz should offer Kemba the max on the very first second of free agency. All the big market teams are going to be focused on AD, Kawhi, Kyrie, Klay at that point in time. Charlotte is going to miss the playoffs again. The idea of playing with Rudy and Donovan would have to tempting as all hell to him considering who he's been stuck playing next too for so long. Even if he really likes Charlotte, does he really want to stay there and keep losing??

This is a tough one. I think that Kemba has Lillard-like loyalty, yet that team has been bad his entire career and has shown no signs of being able to find him any help. I can also see the appeal of staying in that situation, not having a ton of pressure to win, and putting up All-Star bids year after year. It will be really interesting to see what his priorities are this offseason.

No one we're going to have a chance at is a difference maker.

I think that it will be interesting to see what DL's strategy is. Maybe they won't be players in the 1st or 2nd tier rounds of free agency, but there are definitely guys who could make an impact who are buy-low type players.

Like who? Are we gonna sign Mrotic and play him over Crowder? Find a 3 to start over Ingles? Find a legit point guard?

Satoransky makes sense if we don't 1+1 Rubio. Outside of that, I don't see an upgrade at the point either. If Satoransky is even an upgrade which he very well might not be.

I think a smart, attainable free agent could be JJ Redick. Imagine him starting at SG with Donovan at PG. And we could probably get him without sacrificing Favors. Korver has done well for us, but I believe that JJ is better pretty much across the board. He's averaging almost 18ppg this year. He isn't the type guy who can initiate offense, but he's a guy spreads the floor heavily for everybody else.

If we could put together an end of the game offensive lineup with Donovan, JJ, Korver, Joe and Gobert with Gobert setting screens, try to defend that...

I like JJ but he has does dumbass **** and disappears in big games.

I could see Redick, although I don't think he's leaving Philly. Not counting the Hood/Crowder deal, DL has really only made two moves in the attempt to build around Donovan: drafting Grayson, and trading for Korver. Summer 2017 he placed an emphasis on acquiring defense-first guys, but he didn't know what we had in Mitchell yet. Even with Rubio and Favors potentially leaving, we have enough defense-first guys in the rotation. Korver isn't an elite defender, but he works in the system because of who he's surrounded by.

I think this offseason you're going to see them target shooters and shot creators, even at the expense of defense. Mitchell needs offensive help. The three buy-low guys I see that make sense in those roles are IT, Hood, and Jabari. I probably wouldn't go get all three, those are just the names I can think of that would fit that description. They might suck on defense, but I trust Quin to get the most out of each of them on that end.

It's clear we need more guys on 10-15 million a year type contracts for trading purposes. $20 million a year Jabari Parker still (shockingly) had trade value in the NBA this season.

Man,have you watched him play this week without Embiid? Absolute horrific shooting performances without Embiid being there to draw the defensive attentions/setting screens. Plus he's aging towards the end of his career. Im sure we can find some young shooters in the draft like Landry Shamet this year and do the same thing for us at a much cheaper cost.

If he completely fails this postseason, then we would have to take that into consideration. I don't think it's necessarily his fault that Chris Paul or Blake Griffin always got hurt or Simmons is such a liability in terms of space.

Sato will be an upgrade over Rubio. At lease for the Jazz system. Been shooting 50/40 two seasons in a row now. Pairing with him allows Beal to play his best level of basketball as the lead guard. Could very much be the same case for Mitchell.

The guy isn't perfect, but the guy also won't cost $30+. I just think JJ would be a good consolation prize when we are hoping for so much more. Korver looked absolutely awful last postseason for Cleveland, but he is looking great for us so far.

If we strike out on bigger targets, keeping Favors and signing Redick makes us better than just keeping Favors and Rubio.
