Summer League: Jazz vs. 76ers Tuesday 9am (wake up early)

You're forgetting how great an athlete his dad was. When he came into the league, he was as fast and quick as Rickey Green was at that point.
Yes, Stockton was a great athlete, but don't make up stories here...he was not as fast as Rickey "the fastest of them all" Green.

Are you old enough that you watched them when they were both on the same team? Green might have been faster earlier in his career, but by the time Stockton came on board he was pretty much matching what I was seeing out of Green.

John Stockton was extremely quick early in his career, as quick an any guard in the NBA at that time, which is why he got so many steals -- we're talking quick, two, three steps quick. Fast is something different, running the floor, like Westbrook or James Worthy in his prime; Ricky Green was fast, not that he wasn't quick, but there is a difference.

Ahern and Green aren't NBA ready though. Stockton may be better than Watson but Watson is a veteran. I want a young PG with a high ceiling not a mediocre backup PG

I dont understand why 2 years in a row we are apparently going with 3 vets at PG. Give a young guy a chance.

Early career Stockton was extremely fast. Maybe not as fast as career-prime Green. But when they were both on the same team, I really thought Stockton was as fast as Green. And I was really paying attention at that point of my life (late teens). That's my story and I'm sticking to it.:)

so you guys think a guy,who could not even dominate on NAIA level could be an NBA player?

What happened in college is entirely irrelevant now. If he can play now, that's all that matters. If he's doing as well as guys that have had a cup of coffee in the NBA, then he probably deserves a camp invite from somebody. We'll see if he can keep it up next three days.

Jack Sikma, Scottie Pippen and Dennis Rodman were all NAIA players. They did OK.
Those 3 players also dominated at the collegiate level.

Like everyone here I like Michael Stockton and the way he's played - but you don't make an nba roster before you earn an invite to training camp. Were he 2-3 inches taller, you could perhaps make a John Crotty comparison - but at 6-0 (at best) without elite quickness, fundamentals and grit will only get you so far in this league. There are a ton of great guards who have long and successful careers playing overseas, and that's where I see M-Stock ending up.

No way Stockton (or anyone else on the SL roster not under contract) makes the team this year. Next summer though, he could have a shot.

I don't think it's necessarily a PGs job (especially one with "Stockton" on his jersey) to dominate.

Is that including Murphy? If Murphy doesn't make the team the Jazz would only have 12 guys once Raja is officially bought out. Of course, any number of trades could still happen between now and the start of the season.

My bad, I overlooked the fact that he's not under contract. I assume he'll make the team putting us at 13 (once Raja's officially gone) and we'll use part of the MLE to pick up an UFA.

I do still think that KOC's playing the waiting game and when the Howard domino falls he could make another deal which could shake things up a bit.

Green was the "fastest of them all." Stockton was quick. There's a difference. And quickness generally trumps speed except in a track meet, which basketball rarely is. Not that John was slow. But Stockton was quick with his hands and feet. He anticipated well and his fundamentals were flawless. Oh yeah, and he was one of the toughest SOB's in the league.

I think KOC will be very aware of whats going down there and if any deals are there for the taking like the DWill scenario. He may not be "waiting" but he will pounce on something if it walks in front of him so to speak. I think something will.
