Summer League Jazz vs. Memphis

My son and I were at the Summer League game last night. After they showed Joe Ingles was there we talked how it would be cool to get the Ingles jersey he was wearing signed by him. We said it would be cool if we asked him to sign it Headband Joe but if he instead signed it Head BanJo. I feel it does fit his and our humor perfectly. Anyway we thought it was funny and I wanted to let others in on it. :)

Bradley looked really good when he wasn't playing against NBA caliber players. There was a 3-4 minute stretch at the end of the first half where he was going at it with Ivan Raab, almost possession by possession, and Raab owned him.

His FT stroke makes my physically ill and his defensive instincts are slow as ****.

I don't stay up at night worrying about 3rd string centers. I don't think either Bradley or Reed makes a world of difference - if The Jazz had to play either one extended minutes then we're screwed anyway. But Reed seems to be the better choice.

The game made me glad I picked Brantley as the rookie with the best shot to make the team. That block he made was NBA caliber.

I liked what I saw from Brantley - I felt like he was trying to be a little too cute at times on offense; but I get that - he's trying to show off his bag of tricks.

Seems like he got a little "Crowder-like" swagger too. This could be fun.

Yeah, I know it's just one game (and one very painful game to watch at that), but since we're all Jazz scouts, we are supposed to be making observations based on this one game. I don't think anyone here truly believes one game defines any of these players, but we're all tuning in looking for a glimmer of promise. All three of the 2nd rounders showed some glimmer of promise, and all of them made questionable decisions and executed poorly at times. Brantley definitely had the best game of the three, but each of JWF and Oni had flashes as well. Based on one game, it is certainly possible none of these guys will crack the Jazz lineup, but it is also possible we'll see 2-3 of them on the 15-man.

Yeah, Bradley has slimmed down and looks to be in better shape, but he absolutely was not drafted for his athleticism: he was drafted to take advantage of his rebounding chops and defensive capabilities (his ORB% was No. 1 in the NCAA as a freshman, and his NetRtg was a whopping +31.5). I have heard multiple experts suggest that rebounds, steals, and assists are the college stats that are the most likely predictors of NBA success, so it seems the Jazz were likely gambling that Bradley's rebounding prowess would translate into NBA success. I also believe it is possible the Jazz's success with Millsap (who some of you may recall led the NCAA in rebounding all three seasons he played at LaTech - and would have been a favorite to win the title again had he stayed his senior season) may have contributed to the Jazz taking a chance on a developing rebounding machine. I also have to wonder if having fellow Tar Heel Ed Davis in the fold as a potential mentor will expedite young Bradley's progress.

My wife agrees with that lol she can't stand his voice when I blast his podcasts on my phone

Locke is a guy that I swear would do poorly here in new york. Tony Jones is 1,000,000x better at his job imo. If there was ever an 'out of towner' who's shtick wasn't gonna work here, it's locke. he's just so green! it's truly a wet behind the ears vibe i get from him..

I feel for your wife for having to listen to those podcasts but he is more of a podcast type of guy on a microphone it sounds to me, not really for live tv...

he genuinely seemed to be annoying boler and thurl last night by insisting to get the last word in on some absurd point he made and backed up with balderdash.
