Why ISN'T purchase necessary?

Gambling problems?

I BOUGHT (well, my dad bought) THE POPTARTS!!!! Why shouldn't I have a BETTER chance to win an XBOX KINECT than some schlub who bought NOTHING!!!!!!!

I remember a few years ago when Publisher's Clearing House was caught throwing out thousands and thousands of sweepstakes entries where the entrant hadn't bought anything. They got into a lot of trouble.

I think it's a gambling issue. If you buy pop tarts and then enter you essentially have spent money on the chance to win. You're gambling that if you buy pop tarts you'll win a million dollars (or whatever the prize is).
