Taylor Hendricks Hype Thread

OK but that confidence that Bilal wasn’t even an option for us at 9…..was actually 100% right. It was an impossibility to get Bilal at 9. You and Eliza were on top of that one :p
It wasn’t even about that. It’s preseason everyone declaring Taylor a bust and slobbering over ever dumb thing Bilal or any other prospect did.

Preseason seems early, but some would say there was a ton of slobbering over Taylor before the draft even started. Even now when things are looking better for TH, some of the pre draft analysis on him is still crazy to me. For example, I could not believe people were comparing him to JJJ and specifically the thing that JJJ was the best in the entire league at.

People are going to slobber over the guys they wanted. It is what it is. People wanted Bilal, and some responded to that notion saying that he can’t even be considered an option at #9. If someone can feel that strongly about a player before the draft, it seems to follow that people can also feel strongly about players during the preseason.

Slobber over whoever you want but they would simultaneously cream themselves over a Bilal while saying “I can’t believe in this amazing draft with all these great players we got stuck with this bum”. I mean Dick was shooting like 12% and people were like “yeah but he looks the part”. It was a bit much.

And yes Taylor is not JJJ but McDaniels seems pretty reachable. I joke about Bilal Pippen but I think he’s a good prospect. Outside of his first couple summer league games he’s showed great promise. Just felt like people decided he was a bust right away while simultaneously declaring other dudes Him even when actual production was meh.

I mean....earlier in this season I remember people commenting that TH was able to connect consecutive dribbles together. The only difference is that the extreme homer comments don't seem "a bit much" when it's the player you like. If I said something along the lines of "TH is not even good enough to be considered at #9"....what would that feel like to you? I'm sure you would gloat if that notion was proved wrong not just by other teams in the draft but the Jazz themselves. It's all for fun at the end of the day....but understand that it goes both ways.

I can’t claim to watch as much as Homey….but there were some seriously odd plays that made me question some things. Loose balls would float right past his face and he was either too slow to react/uninterested in going for them. I’m pleasantly surprised the opposite is true in the NBA. What I saw in the Gleague had me concerned about his effort level, but I’d say that’s been a huge plus in the actual league.
Hope he keeps it up and doesn’t turn into AK47 after he got paid.

I think the way we've handled TH's minutes/role this season has been....odd to say the least. Whether you want to say that is what actually helped him or held him back, I don't really care. What's important that he's firmly arrived and I don't think they will pull him back once we are not tanking. Defensively, I still think I need to see more. Not in a bad way, but it's hard to tell when we're so overmatched every night. But he's very becoming the player I thought we had when we drafted him. He probably won't be a star, but there's a very strong chance he's going to be a $100 mil, 3 FRP value kind of guy. His role is simple, but valuable.

It'll be interesting to see what kind of contract Pat Williams gets this summer and also if Pat is even going to be better than TH next year.

I think Williams is interesting. Its weird he doesn't shoot more threes. He also seems maybe a bit too mellow. The injuries have really sucked for him. Was gonna say Taylor is already a better shooter but Williams shoots 41% from three for his career. Just doesn't shoot enough. Not sure if its a slow shot or just not willing to let it fly.

There is just something off with Williams.

Yeah there's definitely something off about him, I feel like he should be better than he is. I'm sure some team will believe in him and give him a big contract though. Like if we are able to move JC or JC this summer, would we be a team that offers him the big deal? I give him a C+ and B+ for the 3&D respectively, but that might be worth $20M a year. Someone is going to think it is anyways.

I don't think we would. I also didn't think we would trade for Collins (without compensation) either. Williams seems like a Detroit Piston to me.
