Team's biggest mistake

I'm less-low on Love than most. I do think the Jazz could use a bit more firepower and I do think this is the year to go for it, but sending Ingles for Love trades out a lot of important attributes to diminishing returns on offense. I don't know how the Jazz address this given the asset and salary composition of the Jazz (which is why I wanted the Jazz to sign vets that would be paid the max vet minimum amount, although I of course understand trying to churn out some diamonds in the rough).

Gallinari would be the play for me. Except I would try to find a way to not send Ingles, which makes the money basically impossible.

I'm just rambling now.

Yes, but if he’s looking good he then becomes unattainable. People are never interested in making moves for people when their stock is low because [reasons why the stock is low], but they’re interested in waiting to see if the value rebounds, thinking they’ll be able to grab it for the same cost as when it was low.
He might still be attainable for rather cheap. Cavs can't rebuild properly with love on the roster.
Maybe instead of them giving up assets to rid themselves of him right now, they get very minor assets to get rid of him after he shows he can still play.

Love, 30, is still an excellent scorer and rebounder when healthy
Kevin Love has been injury-prone throughout his career and has missed significant time because of injuries each of the last three seasons. He is never going to be really health again. Besides, due to his rapidly declining athleticism, Love can't even finish inside anymore. Last season, according to basketball-reference.com, he shot 51.7% from close range (0 to 3 feet from the basket). That was worse than any Jazz player, with the exception of Naz Mitrou-Long. Nowadays, Love is basically nailed to the ground. He can't move laterally on the defensive side and can't jump to finish near the rim on the offensive one. Besides, he shot only 25% on threes last season, although he is probably going to be an slightly above average outside shooter going forward. He still rebounds, of course, but that is on smarts and thoughness. In other words, Love is strictly a role player these days, and a somewhat problematic one - someone that has to be hidden on the defense and that on offense doesn't do much besides shooting from outside. I think you should get over him.

Good post, ghsartin
At this point in his career, Love might not be an improvement at all vs. the players we have. Besides, I think Jazz will be going small for a good chunk of the game with Ingles and Bojan at the 3 and 4. It would be nice to find a more permanent solution than Green, but I don't think Love, even if we could get him, is the answer.

22 GP last season, 59 the season before, 60 the season prior to that. No thanks.

Jeff Green missed some games with the Magic but aside from that he's been durable for years and as mentioned in this thread, he's a deal.

Someone like Robert Covington makes a lot more sense to target. He is a lock down defender, good shooter and a lot cheaper against the salary. He is coming off a surgery so might be had at a little cheaper, it will require at a least first round pick, probably a couple seconds as well to get him though. I'd mich rather prefer defensive first wing to another scorer.

Love has one of the worst contracts in the league...

You may not like him and he does have an expensive contract, but at least he can perform several functions (shooting and rebounding) at an NBA level. There are many worse contracts out there. Look no further than behind the Jazz bench, Rxum (sitting there in a suit) has no discernible NBA skill and he has spent far more time hurt.

I'd much rather have Bojan on the team than Love, and I don't hate Love like some others do.

I think this is the best realistic upgrade this team could make. It totally depends on a lot of variables that are basically out of the Jazz's control, namely how well the Timberwolves do this season, in addition to how well Culver and Wiggins play.

I’d love to have both Covington and Andre Roberson. And also Shumpert. I’d play close games football/hockey style.

Exum doesn't have a $30M+ contract. Love declined to 38.5%/36% last season in just 22 games. At his age, you have to ask if he is in a steep decline in shooting AND health. He does rebound, I'll give you that. Exum is a very good defender who you can throw at guards. Love can't guard a water bottle. But it's moot; I guarantee you Zanak isn't trading Joe, Dante and another asset for Love.
