That was basically the tone of the article. It said peace or war rested on the shoulders of Putin and Erdogan and that should frighten us all.

Yeah. Matters like peace and well being of our children shouldn't be left in the hands of people like those two who act like they have lost their minds.
And that article did not even account for the wild cards like Iran, Saudi Arabia and the various groups in Syria. Dangerous for sure. Every day they escalate a little more.

Turks should ask themselves who would be the best sponsor of the Kurds for Turkey. Iran? Russia? Assad? Baghdad? A combination of these? Or would it better serve Turkey for Turkey itself to sponsor the Kurds?
Turkey should not only sponsor the Kurds but be their champion. Turkey must do a better job of supporting the Kurdish people because ultimately that is the only way they can defeat the Kurdish extremists. They should identify the most desirable leaders and groups and then bend over backwards to support them. When something like Kobani happens the Turks must not watch, they must be the first to come to their aid. Turkey must become the best country for Kurds to live in. Kurds cannot feel like second class citizens but should feel invested in a shared prosperous future. Turkey within their borders should give Kurds everywhere an aspirational example of a real Kurdish future. None of this is to say that Turkey should not stand against militants and terrorists but as they do Turkey should be careful not to run over the people that are so important to their future.

Problem is that there are Kurdish parties that want a Kurdish state that includes some southern parts of Turkey. Erdogan will never embrace that.
But I agree, a stable Kurdish nation that you helped create on your southern border is monumentally better than the quagmire that they have now. Turkey would be smart to push for this.

In a perfect world... We actually came pretty close when Kurdish party announced in their campaign that they are not only Kurds' party but they hug the entire people. It was something new. Everyone wanted bloodshed to end. They received many votes that got them into the parliament. And the leader later thanked the votes which he called "borrowed votes" and he knew they had a mission to thank those votes back. But PKK leaders hated this because he was getting stronger and they actually threatened him to stop thanking the people who voted them for the first time. They fed him with a new line to say. And he came up saying "we did not need the borrowed votes to get into the parliment." You see, if the Kurdish issue gets solved peacefully that easily, the PKK wil be unnecessary. But they have the ultimate hegemonia and threat over their own people and their local leaders. They have to do as they please. You see these are militants that spent all their life with AK 47 s in hand. Nothing else they have. If the vibe that was created succeeded, not only Erdogan but PKK would lose their power too. So the ones who feast upon bloodshed does not want the bloodshed to end. **** this ****.

Even without a Kurdish state Turkey has to embrace the Kurdish people politically, economically, and culturally. There are more Kurds in Turkey than Iraq. If Turkey wants to protect its sovereignty it will need to solve its internal Kurdish issues and they can't do that by fighting the PKK.

it's not really lol-worthy-- it wasn't exactly an easy process to form Canada in its early stages. Quebec nearly separated as recently as the 90s. Also, there is constantly seats won in elections by the Bloc Quebecois-- a party who's main platform is essentially separation. The wars waged between the English and French historically were way more bloody than anything the Kurds and Turks have managed.
