What's new

The Biden Administration and All Things Politics

I wonder if the Trump Tard I work with is going to try to inject this into our morning work call? I've already heard him advocate for overthrowing the government based on, uh, like reasons I guess.
Based on his fear of losing his privilege, which he does not understand. But it makes him uneasy, even though he doesn't know why, and since that is not normal it must be bad. So if it is bad the gub'mint has to be behind it. So since the gubmint is obviously a threat, they need to be eliminated. So he can go back to feeling, you know, comfortable. Change is hard!

Every one of those items is real. The lying on FISA warrants was done by Kevin Clinesmith and he's been convicted for it.
A cop lying to get a warrant application is "dog bites man" news. That's why no one around here is talking about the cops being arrested for lying about the invasion of Breanna Taylor's apartment. The only unusual part is that there is a prosecution at all.

The Steele dossier used by the FBI appears to be the product of a Russian disinformation campaign

Most of the so-called perpetrators of the Gretchen Whitmer kidnapping plot are getting acquittals due to it becoming clear that without the FBI doing all of the planning that there was no kidnapping plot.

Like it or not, the Hunter Biden laptop is real, and the FBI buried the investigation.

Trying to gaslight people on the political right by saying that Kevin Clinesmith wasn't really convicted doesn't help. There are real issues with how politically partisan the FBI appears to half the country, and if these issues have reached the level of being voiced by our elected representatives including at least one of the senior members of the Senate Judiciary Committee then it is unwise to ignore it.

Look, you dont have to prove to me that you are susceptible to fake news media. I already know.

Being duped by Russian intelligence is considerably different than discovering a thing is disinformation and still continuing to use it as a justification to continue what you are doing. As for the opinion of the Republican Senator, Grassley is on the oversight committee with access to classified information and speaking on a subject for which there is abundant clear evidence already in the public domain thanks to Hunter forgetting where he left his laptop.

Half the country being of the opinion the FBI has a political bias is serious. Trump is widely disgraced already and so I don't expect the raid on Mar-a-Lago to move the needle much but going forward if the FBI gets caught doing pretty much anything to DeSantis I think the wheels will fall off.

I see. So desantis, trump, and anyone on the political right should be free to do whatever crimes they want and the fbi should never investigate because investigating anyone on the right for any reason shows that the fbi are just democrats. Pretty sweet straw man you tried to create.

I only see two solutions that would appease trumpers. 1. Fire everyone in the fbi and re hire all new agents. Problem with that solution is that the first time the new agents investigate a crime by a right wing politician, we are back to square one and they are just dems with badges again because we all know that right wing politicians are incapable of committing crimes.
Solution 2. Just let right wing politicians commit crimes without consequence.

The grand old party of law and order

Any more that is exactly what the Trumpsters want. Of course that is what every politician has always wanted, crime in politics is hardly a new thing. But it is completely bizarre how far this has all escalated into insanity with it being so public and with zero nuance. At least in the past they tried to lie and deny their way out of things. Now they are going after the people whose job it is to investigate all this. Don't deny anything, in fact double down on the ********, but take out the enforcers of the law. It is the ultimate form of gaslighting. Say it and embrace it enough and it becomes true.

Republicans act like they're merely a feather in the wind being tossed around by forces they cannot influence or control when in reality, they're active participants in their own distrust of reality.

Republicans lost the 2020 Presidential election. But instead of reflecting back on why they lost (bad candidate and policies) they decide to not believe in or trust the election results.
Republicans don't like that the media reports Republican crimes. But instead of reflecting back and making course corrections (denouncing Jan 6) they decide to not believe in or trust the media.
Republicans don't like how people voted in 2020. But instead of reflecting back and trying to win in the ideas marketplace, they decide to give up on convincing voters and decide to disenfranchise voters through voter suppression.
Republicans don't like that Trump is being investigated by the FBI. But instead of reflecting on what crimes he might have committed to warrant an FBI raid, they decide to not believe in or trust the FBI.

Republicans have DECIDED to give up on America and American democracy. They have decided on authoritarianism because they don't want the rules to apply to them. They want to be in charge of the country without having to undertake any of the responsibility like, winning elections, having good policy, obeying the law, running good candidates, compromising with the other party, conceding when you lose, etc.

It's more comforting to them to avoid reflection. It's easier to double down and admit that Trump (their god) is infallible and EVERYONE ELSE is wrong rather than admit that they've been taken for fools. They refuse to admit that they've been wrong and that the people they hate have been right. It's easier to never reflect but to just keep weaving dumb conspiracy after conspiracy. The "**** your feelings" crowd just can't stand having their feelings hurt.

To be fair, most of the people I have heard express continuing support of Trump say it is because they value policies over character. I think many Republican voters who did not vote for Trump did so not because they were disappointed with his policies but because his behavior was just too much for them to ignore.

Strong southern boarder is important to them.

Anti-Muslim policies and rhetoric is important to them.

Ultra-conservative Supreme Court justices is important to them.

Lower taxes (regardless of them disproportionally helping the very wealthy) is important to them.

Cutting restrictions in general but especially environmental regulations that they believe cost jobs is important to them.

Last but certainly not least, owning the libs is important to them.

Many were perfectly happy with Trump's performance and/or effort on those issues. Some felt that despite that Trump simply isn't fit for office (because he very clearly isn't) so they didn't vote for him in 2020. Independent voters in particular, who are less passionate about the above in general, couldn't vote to re-elect him. Anti-Trump voters who might not even care about politics at all came out specifically to vote against Trump because they absolutely can't believe he was elected President in 2016 and were not going to stand by and possibly let that happen again.

Al on the january 6th committee: i dont have a problem with an investigation into what happened on January 6th i just dont think congress should be the ones doing it, it should be law enforcement.

Law enforcement investigates trump, Al is like well thats also not ok. Lol.

I see what you want here. No investigations into orange god king by anyone for any reason. Should have just come out and said that in the first place man.

What you have constructed here is a straw man.

I agree with your first statement. It should be law enforcement doing criminal investigations. As for the rest of your post, I've been very open that I do not have a problem with charging or prosecuting Trump. When laws are broken, there should be consequences. From a political standpoint, if the FBI is slave to the democrat party then this move was genius. Trump has too many negatives to beat a democrat in the next presidential election, but this attack on Trump will bring a resolve to Trump's base which will likely serve to get him the nomination over DeSantis whom the democrats cannot beat.

My pointing out the reasons behind why those on the political right no longer trust the FBI had nothing to do with the rain on Mar-o-Lago. They have more to do with things like Andrew McCabe getting caught in at least 3 instances of lying to investigators but nothing happening to him including his keeping his pension. With the FBI, many are noting a political bias to the way things are being handled.
