The Biden Administration and All Things Politics

Trump and Republicans lying, lying, and while they’re at it already, lying some more……Trump M.O.: in this case bemoan the troubles created by imaginary happenings that never happened and have no basis in the real world, as Paul Krugman notes. On and on Trump waxes over problems in his imaginary alternate reality. And our clueless Trump cultists post tweets reflecting those lies…

“And yet, the hurricane has become the latest topic of disinformation for MAGA Republicans. Social media today is full of accounts claiming that the federal government is not responding to the crisis in western North Carolina because it prefers to spend money in Ukraine and on undocumented immigrants. Newsmax host Todd Starnes claimed that FEMA’s “top priority is not disaster relief” but to push diversity, equity and inclusion. “So, unless you’ve got your preferred pronouns spraypainted on the side of your submerged house—you won’t get a penny from Uncle Sam. Western North Carolina is just too Conservative and too Caucasian for FEMA to care.” The House Judiciary Committee posted that “Joe Biden was at the beach.”

These posts echo Russian disinformation, and Trump was on board with it. Touring Valdosta, Georgia, today, as a private citizen where people are still without power amidst the devastation, Trump said he had spoken to Elon Musk to get his Starlink satellites into North Carolina; FEMA has already provided 40 of the systems to North Carolina. He claimed that Georgia governor Brian Kemp is “having a hard time getting the president on the phone. They’re being very non-responsive.”

“When a reporter asked President Biden and Democratic North Carolina governor Roy Cooper to respond to Trump’s accusation that they are ignoring the disaster, Biden responded: “He's lying. And the governor told him he was lying…. I've spoken to the governor, spent time with him…. I don't know why he does this. And the reason I get so angry about it, I don't care about what he says about me, but I care what he communicates to the people that are in need. He implies that we're not doing everything possible. We are…. I assume you heard the Republican Governor of Georgia talk about that he was on the phone with me more than once. So that's simply not true. And it's irresponsible.”

Economist Paul Krugman noted: “We’ve all become desensitized, but it’s amazing how at this point the Trump campaign rests entirely on denouncing things that aren’t happening—[an] imaginary bad economy, imaginary runaway crime and now an imaginary failure of Biden and Harris to respond to natural disaster.”

Take note, lying Trump cultists. Clueless cultists don’t bother checking the facts. Just post observations by their fellow liars:

“In contrast, numerous posters today noted that Trump repeatedly withheld federal aid from Democratic governors—including that of North Carolina—after disasters in their states. After the Trump campaign organized a fundraiser for victims of the hurricane, David Frum of The Atlantic reminded readers that in 2019, Trump was fined $2 million and three of his children were ordered to take classes as a penalty for taking for their own use funds from charities they ran.”

“Nobody thought this would be happening” during the actual peak of hurricane season, the season lasting through November….

trumpers want less government anyway. Why would they complain for the governments lack of involvement?

What's up with wanting everything to turn into WWIII?

I could kinda see the concern around the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine (turns out the Russians were more corrupt than anticipated and their military was falling apart). But why on earth would Iran/Israel, even if they went to full scale war, ever go global? Iran has no allies that love them like that, and Israel isn't in that much better of a position at this point (yes, the US is willing to throw cheap weapons at them, but we'll do that for near anybody).

Not bad

Weird. Who could have foreseen this? Trump’s very fine people. Remember, they’re like so economically anxious and love immigrants but just want immigrants to follow the process. Or something. Amirite???

A fifth-generation resident in the small city between Columbus and Dayton, Mr. McGregor was struggling a few years ago to fill positions for machine operators, forklift drivers and quality inspectors. Mr. McGregor, 48, began hiring Haitians who had recently settled in Springfield. They now represent about 10 percent of McGregor Metal’s labor force of 330.

But he has suddenly found himself in the middle of a political firestorm. Former President Donald J. Trump and his running mate, JD Vance, denounced the Haitians in Springfield with false claims that they were stealing and eating pets. The rumors fed growing resentment over rising housing prices, crowded clinics and a town whose character seemed to be changing. Mr. McGregor, who had publicly praised his new employees for their hard work and willingness to learn, became a target.

A flood of threats was directed not only at him, but his family and his business.
They came by the hundreds — phone calls, emails and letters from white supremacists, neo-Nazis and other people they had never met.

“The owner of McGregor Metal can take a bullet to the skull and that would be 100 percent justified,” said one message left on the company voice mail.

“Why are you importing Third World savages who eat animals and giving them jobs over United States citizens?” another asked.
“Stack all 20,000 Haitians inside Jamie McGregor’s factory at once and force him to praise the benefits of foreign labor while being crushed to death by Black bodies themselves being crushed to death,” another said.

J D Vance, upset that in a Post Truth era, someone fact checked him. Post Truth means lies=facts. Meaning the equal of facts, if one prefers the lie. It no longer matters. Lies are expected to vie with facts, and people are allowed to push the narrative they prefer. Lacking factual basis is irrelevant to Trump’s approach: talk his reality into existence. Of course this is very familiar: repeat a lie often enough….Post Truth is the era of “alternate facts”, the term Kelly Conway famously coined.

And from Vance’s perspective, alternative facts should not be fact checked.

Trump supporters do not recognize this emerging playing field. They chose to believe the lie. They created a term, as a couple of posters here are fond of pointing out, known as TDS. Actually TDS is nothing more than a reflection of those of us who recognize that what Trump did, and continues to do, are both simply lies, (and why on Earth would we not point that basic truth out?), as well as simply being not how we do business in this country. We do not expect, and should not allow, the loser of a race to declare himself the winner.

How hard is that to understand, that some here would rather label that TDS, rather than a simple fact that any American should be alarmed at: the transition is peaceful, and the loser exits without attempting a coup. Yet, to these MAGA clowns, folks that recognize this impossible not to recognize fact (if they had half a brain) are hypocrites!

TDS is not a form of mental derangement. It is the simple recognition, by American citizens who know their civics well enough, to recognize a very simple, very easily recognizable fact: Trump is lying and attempting to remain in power. You know, third world stuff. The people that claim what they call TDS is the problem, are themselves victims of their own inability to apply critical thinking skills. Their alternative facts have nothing to do with truth, and everything to do with “divorced from reality”.

You know who you are(although it’s possible the Dunning-Kruger Effect means you’re too stupid to realize just how stupid you are), your blindness to the truth is all over these Trump threads….while you call those who don’t buy into your pure nonsense “hypocrites”. Sorry, but you’re dumb.

You know who hates fact checks? Liars

Trump is saying that Jack Smith is committing election interference but actually........
The new disclosures from the special counsel's office, however, were made in an ongoing criminal case at the order of a federal judge, Tanya Chutkan, who ultimately made the decision to release the redacted filing Wednesday.
Smith wasn’t aware that Chutkan was going to make the decision to release the document nor when, two sources familiar with the matter who were not authorized to speak publicly said.

Also....... Others have compared the “October surprise” filing to the then-FBI director James Comey’s pronouncements about Hillary Clinton’s emails in October 2016, to Trump’s benefit. But the scenarios are starkly different. In 2016, the director of the FBI made disparaging comments about a presidential candidate who, its investigation found, didn't commit conduct that warranted criminal charges. In 2024, a special counsel who secured three separate indictments from different federal grand juries against a former president disclosed information in an ongoing criminal case at the order of a federal judge.

Trump argued on his Truth Social account Thursday that the Justice Department should do “absolutely nothing” that could interfere with an election in the 60 days before it. "They disobeyed their own rule in favor of complete and total election interference," he wrote in one post. "I did nothing wrong, they did! The case is a scam, just like all of the others."

The 60-day period doesn't apply to judges, nor does it generally apply to pending cases, although that's always subject to discretion if prosecutors want to avoid taking certain actions even in pending cases. Chuck Rosenberg, a Justice Department veteran and NBC News legal analyst, said Smith's team was doing things by the book.

“The case was previously indicted. Litigating that case is an obligation of the Smith team and not a violation of Justice Department guidelines," Rosenberg said. "In any event, the Smith team properly sealed its filing. The judge properly unsealed it. It’s really not any more complicated than that.”

Smith's decision to swiftly seek a superseding indictment in August can't be separated from the reality that he and his team believe Trump is a criminal who committed four felonies in a conspiracy to overturn the 2020 election, that he is a repeat offender who the committed the kind of criminal conduct that would earn him a lengthier sentence and that he should be serving that sentence in 2025, not in the White House. Had Smith's team had its way, the Supreme Court wouldn't have stepped in, and Trump would currently be in federal prison or, at least, a convicted criminal, and it would be preparing its sentencing memos for Chutkan as Election Day nears.
