The Donovan Mitchell Hype Thread! (repository of highlights and effusive praise)

Defensive win shares is an extremely flawed statistic. It assumes all teammates are equally good (per minute) at forcing non-steal turnovers and non-block misses, and assumes that all teammates face the same number of total possessions per minute. This leads to it over-valuing guys that get a decent number of steals but are obviously not good defensively (James Harden). It also undervalues elite rim protectors that allow a low FG% at the rim, but don't have the block numbers to back it up.

I LOOOOVE advanced analytics but defense is tough to quantify.

Can't wait for the rivers of tears when people realize DM is a mere mortal.

At least 5 posters will call him a bust.

Nah. People will call him a bust, but this dude is the real deal.

The only guy I've believed in more is Rudy.

I like how you're excited about the possibility that our fanbase will viciously turn on a young prospect.

I like DM and I hope he proves to be a stud. But we have very little data currently. One thing's for sure, though. He will certainly look like a rookie this season. Because rookies almost always do.

This talk about him contributing as much as Hill did last year is absurd.

i feel as optimistic as anyone but you really have to wait and see him play against NBA athletes first, particularly at his height

I think he'll find his way into the rotation but i don't expect him to play more that 18 mins per night in his first year. He'll do his share of sitting and learning, maybe water to wine and bread and fish will be a second year sort of thing...

Correction.
If he plays a full season making it close to the same as Hill did when he played half the games. Basically almost half as effective as Hill per game. Geez people, get a grip. Have a little hope and/or faith in the kid. I see something in him I haven't seen in anyone here in a long time. I hope it doesn't die out before it gets going, that controlled fire.

I could see 18 mpg. I hope he plays himself into more minutes though.

given our injury history it wouldn't surprise me if he ends up getting 22-23 min Really looking forward to seeing what he can do without getting my hopes crazy high
