The Heat's win streak reached 26 in a row tonight against the Bobcats, making them 7 games away from tying the 71-72 Lakers' record, and 8 away from breaking it. Do you think Miami will break the record?

Remaining schedule:

March 25th @ Orlando W

March 27th @ Chicago

March 29th @ New Orleans

March 31st @ San Antonio

April 2nd VS Knicks

April 5th @ Charlotte

April 6th VS Philadelphia (to tie the record)

April 9th VS Milwaukee (to break the record)

I'm going to be bold and say they will break the record. They have a four game road trip coming up, but they have a day of rest between each game and two of those teams are really bad.

Probable tough games:

@ Chicago - It's obvious that the Bulls struggle to score without Rose, and because of that, I read that teams that play good defense usually beat them. Miami plays okay defense, right?

@ San Antonio - This one should be the biggest test. Miami won 105-100 on November 29th and they're obviously playing better basketball than they were then. The day of rest before this game will help them, as well.

VS New York - This one's a home game which helps. They already beat New York once during this streak, and aren't they still dealing with injuries?

When you get right down to it, I think LeBron really wants to break the record. The 27 point comeback in Cleveland was the largest deficit LeBron has overcome in his career. He's had multiple game winning shots in this streak. He obviously wants to make a stamp on history with this streak; it would be as big a part of his legacy as Jordan's 72 win season was a part of his. Part of me feels like eight more games is simply too much. But part of me feels like I shouldn't be doubting such a talented player who has his mind set on greatness.

On paper the I'd say the toughest games are the ones you listed. That said, it wouldn't surprise me if a team like the Hornets broke the streak.

....as everyone knows on this board, I'm "old school"! So I voted they don't break the record and hope they don't! I don't want any of these modern day NBA pukes, individuals or teams, to break any of the old school records of the NBA days gone by! Fact of the matter is today's NBA is loaded with pathetic teams that should never have been formed and after having been formed should have been dissolved shortly thereafter! The Heats current record is loaded with wins against sub .500 teams and it would be interesting to see how many sub .500 teams the Lakers beat to reach that 33 win plateau to begin with! Personally, I'm hoping the Spurs (one of the few watchable teams in the whole NBA!) take them out at home and end this foolishness!

...the Heat can beat these chump teams with one hand tied behind there backs! No, if they get beat it will be the Bulls or the Spurs, probably the Spurs.

Even though I said no, it sounds stupid not to believe in a team to make 7 more when they've already won 26.

Unless you believe in dilemmas that is.

During the Heat's 26 game streak, they've beaten 20 different teams with a combined record of 668-724 (.480). 15 of the wins have been against teams that are currently under .500. The 71-72 Lakers beat 15 teams during their 33 game streak. There were only 17 teams in the league at the time. The Cincinnati Royals were the only team to not be part of the streak. Anyway, the Lakers' opponents finished the season with a combined record of 598-632 (.486). 18 of their wins were against teams that finshed under .500. It should be noted that the Lakers played every other team in the league 4, 5, or 6 times and therefore had more of an imact on those teams' overall records than the Heat.

Good find carolinajazz. It raises the question of how many wins the Heat would have get for their streak to be more impressive than the Lakers', given the points Rick Reilly made.
