What's new

The Jazz need to get a starting stretch 5.

This should be the #1 thing on their list after the draft and finding a new coach. The three guys I am thinking about are Spencer Hawes, Channing Frye and Jason Smith. I would probably lean towards Frye because he can hit that 3 points shot consistently. So here is why we need this:

-It moves Favors into his natural position at PF

-It gives us shooting and stretches the floor

-Gives us depth in the front court

Derrick Favors/Enes Kanter
Channing Frye/Rudy Gobert

Both of these combination's really maximize each other's strengths and those combo's will really mesh well together. All by adding one skill specific player it will move Kanter and Favors back to their natural positions and create nice depth and matchups problems for opposing teams.

I believe so. He is an inch taller. Defensively Favors works better guarding a PF. Favors as a 6'10 center is a tad small when he going against taller centers.

Everybody is a tad small when going against people taller than they are.

You guys are all tard faces:

-Both Kanter and Favors are undersized to play center

-Do you all not remember how much smoother our offense we ran when Okur played the 5?

I liked Okur too, but he was an inch taller and a crappy defender and Favors guarding a "taller" center is 10x better than Okur guarding any center.

1. No they aren't. Miami starts Bosh at the 5, San Antonio starts Splitter at the 5, OKC starts Perk at the 5. Kanter AND Favors have the length and size/strength to play the 5 in today's NBA. If anything, they lack the mobility and/or shooting to play the 4.

2. Frye has 1/4'' of height and 1/2'' of reach on Favors. He gives up over 20 lbs. in weight, and is a much worse overall defender, shot blocker and rebounder. Frye is more of a 5 than Favors? Really?

1. Spillter is 6'11 and a great defender. Favors defensive ratings are not that great.

2. Perk again is a great defender. You are talking about some of the two best defensive big men in the game. Favors defense is vastly overrated on this forum. The Jazz were the worst defensive team in the league.

3. LeBron James plays for Miami. I could start at center for them. But again Bosh is 6'11.

This thread became about Channing Frye. Throw in Spencer Hawes or Jason Smith for all I care but we need a big man who can stretch the floor to play with Favors. Plain and simple. As of now Kanter is not ready and he sucks balls when he starts.

I would rather just roll with 21 year old kanter than frye, hawes, or smith.

We aint competing for championships anytime soon so lets develop our young promising cheap guy that we already have signed to our roster.

I do think we should extend kanters range though

If you're just saying the Jazz need a big who can stretch the floor, that's fine. Playing with either Frye or Hawes, however, Favors would be the 5 (not that these position definitions are terribly meaningful). He's much stronger AND a much better rim protector than either of those two.

Also, can you explain what defensive rating is and why it's a good measure of defensive ability?

I still don't love Favors as our center. But getting Kanter to start hitting some threes would help.

The Jazz need to get the best players possible in their effort to build the best team.

This thread is dumb.

Spencer Hawes is a player i was particularly high on in the 07' draft, so im kind of biased, but id consider him. I wonder about the contract he will be asking for though, anything over 6-7mil makes me nervous. Id rather give Greg Monroe the max than pay him 30mil over 3 years

Favors and Monroe as the starting front court is interesting to me

Channing Frye should not be considered on health concerns alone. see Cuttino Mobley
