The Morman hypothetical

Those that responded with a comparison between drug addiction and homosexuality, do you believe that homosexuality can be cured like in the cases of drug or alcohol addiction?

@ Bean: Please explain why my question is stupid.

A stupid question gets a stupid response.....apparently you didn't understand that....so that makes you....stupid?...I vote yes.

Actually I did understand your response was sarcastic. I also understood that VO's question, while perhaps an attempt to incite a riot, was also an attempt to provoke serious thought and discussion. You though? Your initial response was enough to convince me that you do not want to seriously answer the question. I can only assume that the silence is out of fear that you'll be condemned as always. And with good reason.

What are you looking for here Viny? Someone to say "I'd be devastated and disown my child"? I think most people on here would do what's already been said, love the sinner but not the sin.
I like to think I would be supportive of my child and their companion, whatever their sexual orientation. But that being said, I don't think I can truly know unless I am put in that spot.

Because the answer is easily that you love that child no differently than you have or treat them differently. That is not only what the church teaches but its common sense.

I think that's an interesting statement in of itself.

In regards to the original question, I'm not "looking for" anything...just an answer to the question.

Edited to add:

Let me take that back. I guess I'm just looking for the truth.

Common sense? You would think right.

Edited to add: Not being a Morman, I don't have the privilege of accessing Morman literature or teachings...Can you point me in the right direction of a website that will give me better insight to the teachings on this subject.

So you really believe that the church says parents should take NO additional action when one of their children comes out? Really? You REALLY think that's what the church says?

And seriously, it's difficult to take it as an honest question by Viny when he purposely misspells the name even when its been called to his attention. I'm sure he'll respond by saying that such a response is "emotional." I'll pre-empt that by calling him a hack and pointing out that his argument is "pretty vanilla."

Why do people think that one Mormon acting out of line of the church's principles automatically makes them represent all of the church. NEWS FLASH:....mormons make mistakes and do dumb things.

From our late Prophet Hinckley:

"People inquire about our position on those who consider themselves so-called gays and lesbians. My response is that we love them as sons and daughters of God. They may have certain inclinations which are powerful and which may be difficult to control. Most people have inclinations of one kind or another at various times. If they do not act upon these inclinations, then they can go forward as do all other members of the Church. If they violate the law of chastity and the moral standards of the Church, then they are subject to the discipline of the Church, just as others are"
