They added Harrison Barnes and Chris Paul who were #1 and #2 in minutes played in that Dallas game.

If they suck this year, they arent getting a gold star for "smart tanking".

CP3 is like 50 and a good locker room guy
Adding those two pushed them over the salary floor

If a truely tanking team struggles with salary floor, they sell their cap space to take on bad contracts. They dont go adding two servicable 30 mpg vets.

Its not like their 22 win core from last season was threatening a proper tank.

They got an unprotected 2031 pick swap from Sacramento to take on Barnes deal. They essentially got a FRP and a trade-able veteran asset on a good deal (2 yr/$37M) just to help facilitate the trade. I don't think Barnes will be there past the ASB but they should be able to move him for something of value too.


Chris Paul is 40 and does not contribute to winning basketball anymore, he's just there for the vibes

Champion Spurs all you want but if they tried to get trash vets then they suck at identifying who the real trash vets are.

Both guys eat minutes from their youth and were #1 and #2 in game 1 minutes.

Pick your poison.

They'll be able to move Barnes at the ASB for something of value. They had cap space and were able to get a FRP / Barnes for free just to eat cap.

Not sure what type of players you think CP3 / Barnes are at this stage but they're not moving the winning needle very much, especially for a young squad.

Doesnt matter what type of players they are. They eat 60 minutes of PT every game from guys who are 10+ years younger and equally or more tanky.

Where is the upside? Barnes maybe earning you some second round picks?

No. They are trying to be better, and thus added some vets who will bring quality and consistency on the court that they have lacked. The preseason win total line was closer to 40 than 30 wins also, which is a massive jump from 22 wins and reflects their effort to NOT suck as bad this year as they did last year.

Fixed it for ya. Maybe game 1 won't be the permanent rotation/minute distribution

You don't go out and get guys like Harrison Barnes and not play them. Maybe CP3 would be semi-content as a mentor, but I doubt it.
