What's new

The *official* Election Day Game Thread!

I’m just responding to the statement and your response and referencing the forum generally. Not meant to be you (or HH who scarcely visits GD).

I think the above stereotype is a large part of the reason people get broadsided by these things. I’ve been attempting to rationally and calmly mention these issues for quite a while but the general assumption is that I must have my head up my ***.
You have, except you have in the COVID thread and this one circled back to point and laugh. That's big flag, jack-up truck driving around town type behaviour.

When I get that same kind of response from consistently making a lot of dispassionate analysis, my one post of saying, “hey, this wasn’t unpredictable,” is too much?

nah, it's fine. I was just wondering if you were going to get that big Trump flag and mount it on a big truck and drive around. I mean I've never seen that type of behaviour in the U.S. for a politician. I don't fully understand the motivation behind it. I also don't get when someone starts yelling at a woman in a hijab in a grocery store telling her she doesn't belong here and invokes said politician's name. I figured most people would want to distance themselves from that sort of movement in the U.S. because I apparently very naively thought we were generally decent people.

And I think a huge part of the problem is that people who haven’t understood what’s going on conjure up that image. If I assumed all the antifa violence represented all left-leaning thinkers, would I be missing a huge part of the picture, and be rendering myself incapable of dialoging with those individuals?

It looks like maybe hardcore Biden folks should have strapped some flags made of recycled sustainable materials to their Prius’ and done some campaigning... it appears to be effective.

I don’t care for either candidate. Biden seems like a guy I’d want to hang out with but not the guy I want to run the country. Trump is a truly ****** person... I just couldn’t vote for the guy... I understand why people do. I hate the two party system so much.

This is my prediction. I think Biden will win comfortably in the mid 300s. I could see Ohio and Florida switching in my map. But I think Trump fatigue and covid are more than enough for Biden to win and win with a mandate to change completely the course our country is going in. I'd love to see Ohio, Florida, and Texas go blue in a wipeout we haven't seen since the 1980s. But I think Texas is still another cycle or two away from being reliably blue.

Some Trump poetry to break up the tension:

"I never understood wind.
You know, I know
windmills very much.
I have studied it
better than anybody
else. It’s very expensive.
They are made in China
and Germany mostly.
—Very few made here, almost none,
but they are manufactured, tremendous
—if you are into this—
tremendous fumes. Gases are
spewing into the atmosphere. You know
we have a world
right?
So the world
is tiny
compared to the universe.
So tremendous, tremendous
amount of fumes and everything.
You talk about
the carbon footprint
— fumes are spewing into the air.
Right? Spewing.
Whether it’s in China,
Germany, it’s going into the air.
It’s our air
their air
everything — right?
A windmill will kill many bald eagles.
After a certain number
they make you turn the windmill off.
That is true.
—By the way
they make you turn it off.
And yet, if you killed one
they put you in jail.
That is OK.
You want to see a bird graveyard?
You just go.
Take a look.
A bird graveyard.
Go under a windmill someday,
you’ll see
more birds
than you’ve ever seen
in your life."

Is this the election night outcome I was hoping for? No. It isn't.

Does this mean Trump will win? No. It doesn't.

Am I disappointed that Trump wasn't delivered with a massive rebuke? Yes, I'm massively disappointed. I love and care about the U.S. less now than I did yesterday.

I wasn't really kidding about leaving if Trump wins. Might be exactly what I need. I know from my time in the Navy there is an entire world out there beyond the U.S., I just always hoped this was the nation I was taught about in school. The nation that fights for good, for freedom, for justice.

That's not who Trump is and if Trump, the epitome of the ugly American, is who "we" are, I want to be part of something else. If Biden wins by a narrow margin it doesn't change much for me. I don't want to be part of a nation that is 49% trash. If it's 51% trash doesn't change much.

I'm with you on this. That so many people could actually vote for such a repulsive gob of puke is a reflection on them not him.
