Well it had the opposite effect on me when I did it. But Jody grew his hair for a year or more.

Mine was 15 years old. Both long hair pony tail and the beard. Then suddenly I was short haired and no facial hair. I looked like a crap to myself even while I was having dinner that first evening and see my reflection in the window. One of the most demoralizing moments of my life. Although people told me I was looking better. But you are better when you feel good about yourself right? So I'm growing everything back. Didn't even shave my balls since! But Jody look a lot better. He should stay that way. He has a nice face. Not that I don't too. But I dunno. I just don't feel like myself when I'm clean shaved. I feel better now though. People started yelling at me beard like "shave it off! you started again didn't you" etc. So it's gonna be OK as long as my skin keeps the root under.

Well were you growing out your hair and beard to mask your unhappiness like Jody was?
 
It's actually quite amazing what a new haircut can do for your self esteem. It's also quite relaxing. In fact it's one of those things I really look forward to every month.
