I don't know what I'm more perturbed at. The fact that he did his initial confession in a vehicle parked in a field that WVPD may or may not have looked for Susan Powell in, or that the dude is doing facetime autobiographies in said unidentified locations when he's got a wife and four kids held up somewhere. I mean, he's a young dude overall. This all sounds like stuff that should've been figured out before you had four children. Bloomin' Utah, I tell ya.

Yeah, but that's not the part that fascinates me. Hair is dead, right? So when you cut through something that's dead, and has been the same for about 3 decades, how does your body suddenly know to make them grow again? Very weird.

I think it is not dead. It feeds upon the body and has a growth ceiling. Or maybe it keeps growing but the acceleration falls down.

All hair grows and has built in parameters according to the dna. That is why your eyebrows and ear hair and pubes and hair on your head all grow to different lengths. Also the dna tells the hair when to die and fall out. All of your hair grows and dies and falls out, just to different lengths and different schedules. So when your shave your pubes some of them were already growing and some were getting ready to fall out. So it looks like they just start growing but really they were already.

I learned a lot about this when I had chemo. All of your hair doesn't fall out at once because it isn't all always growing at the same rate. It falls out in stages, for me it was about 1/3 at a time.

This also explains why old men suddenly get ear and nose hair. As you get older the dna governing hair growth starts to deteriorate and it loses the code that says stop growing and fall out.

Have you noticed that depressed people invest a lot of energy in talking about and analyzing their depression? I'd love to see a video of Jody sitting at a picnic table by a stream while smiling at the camera (not frowning into his cell phone inside of a mini-van) and talking about all of the blessings in his life. I don't know him, but I'll bet he has tons: a job that many men would love (insider access to the upcoming epic Jazz run!), cool kids, a wife who has stood by him through hard times, a boss who looks at more than the bottom line, freedom to live his life as he chooses, enough money to live comfortably, etc, etc, etc. I wonder how doing that would make him feel. I'd truly love to see it.

I'm not sure the money is as good as we think it is. Especially if you looked at a wage per hour. It's probably a pretty pathetic hourly wage.

I know what you're saying is coming from a caring place, but when you're going through depression flicking the look-on-the-bright-side switch simply isn't an option.

Yup. It's crazy feeling that way. You look around, and you know you should feel ok. You see all the good around you, but yet you feel like crap. You sit down and make a list and you know you are doing well. But you don't feel ok. Then you have a good hour or two, and feel really good, then you think about something, or see something, and instantly you are back down in the dumps.

I can see why it is so analyzed. It's a crazy thing to have to go through. Logically, it doesn't make sense, so you sit and analyze trying to make some sort of sense of it, and trying to convince yourself to fell better.

Actually I realize that there are far better paying jobs than journalism, but it is also a fallacy to think you are not rich just because others are earning more than you. The vast majority of us live at an amazing level of abundance, but many of us don't realize it because we are so prone to comparing our lifestyle to others, and virtually all of us can easily find people who have much more than we do.

As for understanding what depression feels like, I guarantee you that I know it well. My world fell apart a few years ago (if I went into the details I think most people would agree) and for a time I did not deal with it well at all. I was extremely depressed. I was suicidal and very mentally ill for a time. Ultimately, though, I put things back together as I turned my thoughts from the tragedies that had brought me down to the many positives in my life. For me it was extremely therapeutic to focus on and experience the good. I don't know if the strategy that helped me so much would work for everybody, and I realize that some people might not even like the suggestion, but I'd be very surprised if I'm the only person who would benefit from it.
