every cult becomes a death cult. Trumpism is reaching its death cult phase. They’re wanting others to die to protect Dear Leader. True, opening up cautiously is the right thing to do and would ultimately make everyone healthier and wealthier. But that’s not the goal of the cult. The cult exists to protect Trump. Right now Dear Leader wants us to recklessly open up. This cult has been built up over decades of misinformation, unchecked conspiracy theories, and Christian fundamentalism. That’s why you’re seeing so much John Birch Society nonsense claiming that this virus is manufactured by globalists to bring about New World Order and destroy Christianity. Thanks Reagan, for bringing these nutjobs into the Republican fold.

Also, I think white privilege is a heavy influence on our attitudes towards opening up. Many affluent and white communities have barely been touched by this virus because of the effective lockdowns. The virus is seen as something that only impacts diverse and urban communities. But give it time. We’re still only in May. We’ll be hitting 200,000 deaths in the early fall and by that time many of these communities currently point up recklessly will have paid a heavy toll.

A few breakouts in wards on the east side of the valley, Bountiful, and Alpine would completely change the attitude of many Utahns. I don’t hope for this. But it’s most likely coming. Look at other countries who are dealing with this virus. And Read any book on the 1918 flu. We’re still most likely in the first half of this thing. This fall Could be brutal.

No! It’s to stop voter fraud. Just look at all the voting fraud incidents that have been committed by *checks notes* Republicans.

But at least Trump puts his money where his mouth is. How did he vote? *checks notes again* He voted by mail.

Well okay. Fine. But we all know it’s only blue states that vote by mail. *checks notes for the final time* Many red states vote by mail. Utah allows voting for primary and general elections by mail, is a very red state, and hasn’t experienced any notable voting fraud.

So yeah. The president is a moron. The fear I have is politicizing this just as he’s done with masks (and countless other issues) SO that his cult doesn’t accept November’s results. That time between election night and Biden’s inauguration could be scary.

edit: and I should add that they’ve been just a few isolated incidents of Republican voter fraud. So it’s not really a concern. Voter suppression and gerrymandering are much bigger issues than mail in voter fraud.
