The official "let's impeach Trump" thread

Can't stay on topic. As I said why did I come here? I asked about Warren it's amazing you guys can't have a conversation without Trump.
She didn't "wrongly" claim to be native American. She is part Native American, but through her family history as passed down to her, she thought she had more Native American DNA than it turned out she did.

What don't you get about that?

I've been told that on my Father's side, both my grandmother's family and grandfather's family came from England. But that side of the family also claims to have Native Americans in the family tree and for the most part my father and his siblings all look like they have some Native American DNA, certainly not 100% English.

On my Mother's side I'm told my grandmother's family came from England. I never knew my grandfather on that side, but he claimed to be Irish. He was a short guy, drank a lot (died from liver disease) and gambled a lot. I think he felt claiming to be Irish would be better than claiming to be what through family history research it seems he actually was, which was a Russian Jew whose family fled Russia at some point when they were not being particularly kind to Jews.

Do I have any idea if there is any Native American DNA on my father's side? Nope, I don't have a clue. Do I even know that they are mostly English in ancestry? Nope. Same on my moms side, although they have done some family history research, I'm still just taking other people's word for it.

People commonly believe they are what their parents and grandparents tell them they are. Most the time, if asked, they'll give that answer with or without actual proof.

That is correct.

Let me know when you have "evidence" that doesnt come from Trump's political opponents.
It's a tautology for you. Anyone who has evidence against Trump is automatically his political opponent and therefore is not to be trusted. There is literally no way you will accept any negative evidence against him.

The can republicans are opening...

This is so ****ing shortsighted. And all this to defend a guy most of these politicians didn't want anything to do with before he became president.

There's so much wrong with what Trump is doing, it's hard to even know where to start. Like, it would be bad enough to have a president ordering investigations into his political adversaries by our own law enforcement agencies. Forget about quid pro quo's or anything else, this alone is so incredibly ****ing damaging to democracy.

Then to add foreign governments into the mix? It boggles my mind that Republicans are circling the wagons on this, pretending as though they don't know any better. Every single one of them defending this should be run out on a rail.

Is this really what republicans want going forward? Elections decided by foreign countries?

What's striking to me is to see an entire party rushing to turn American democracy into something that more closely resembles what we see in the other country at the heart of this scandal.

I've been listening to a couple podcasts which have interviewed anti-corruption activists in Ukraine, and one of the things they are fighting against is politicians using their office to prosecute their political enemies.

Is this the kind of government we want as Americans? Is Trump's pursuit of power worth giving away the freedom so many have fought and died to protect?

All of this for Donald ****ing Trump?

Really??

I don’t know how we fix this.

Vote them out in the senate?

We can’t.

The senate is anti-democratic so there’s always going to be a certain amount of Republican Senators. Factor in that the population is becoming increasingly concentrated in a handful of states, and the senate becomes a Republican stronghold. It works to empower the minority party.

Vote them out from the White House?

We can’t.

They’ve teamed up with foreign countries and the electoral college is anti-democratic. Like the senate, it works to empower the minority party.

Trump is an anomaly? Not really. It appears that 40 percent of the population has bought into this cult. They’ve rejected reality, common sources of facts, and receive strength and identity when they perceive that their cult is under attack. So they live perpetually in an alternative reality and in a constant state of emergency which increases their participation in elections.

The catch 22:
1. elected members of the GOP can’t speak out or else they’ll be ousted in their primary. The greatness of Trump is that he’s unified the party in ways that Bush never could. Principles such as fiscal responsibility or having a strong foreign policy have gone out the window. No longer does the party unite over principles, it unites over one man and the feeling that they’re under threat.

2. Republican voters have been brainwashed by Fox News and are rejecting traditional sources of information. They find their identity by going against the grind and always maintaining a state of emergency. As this group becomes increasingly homogeneous and isolated, it becomes increasingly unified and paranoid. The more resistance they feel the more cohesion and unity is felt by members.

3. Demographics won’t fix this, as most population centers are along the coasts. As the middle hallows out, the GOP will become increasingly homogeneous and isolated. Left behind in other words.

4. Institutions can’t fix this, as the senate and electoral college are anti-democratic and empower the minority party. And apparently now foreign countries can help this minority power, so elections become even less democratic.

5. I truly wonder if we’re going to see an apartheid type government in the future. Not split necessarily between white and black. But between Trumpism (Rich oligarchs using White Christian male grievance to distract)and everyone else. A Russian the oligarchy that depends on disinformation segregating voters into different realities and preventing democracy from ever taking rooting. It feels like despite demographics working against the republican elected officials and voters, their anti-democratic actions today might empower them for the foreseeable future.
