The *OFFICIAL* Russia Is About To Invade Ukraine Thread

I believe credit should be given where credit is due. While it appears that Trump is going to make good on his promise to bring the war to a quick end, the table was set by the Biden Administration. Russia is in a world of hurt right now due to a policy announcement (direct threat) from the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), a part of the US Treasury Department.

Russia was keeping their economy afloat by skirting sanctions through China and India. On June 12, 2024, the OFAC made an announcement they’d seek to level “secondary sanctions” on any financial entity in any country found to be trading with Russia, and specifically in Rubles. At the time of the announcement, the Russian Ruble was trading at 84 to the dollar. In the six months since then, the Russia Ruble has lost 22% of its value. It has also lost about that much against the Chinese Yuan. Banks in China and India don’t want Rubles. It means the same amount of war now costs Russia a lot more to wage.

Kudos to whomever made that call over at OFAC. Trump may get all the credit for ending the war, but I see you.
Since my last post on the Russian Ruble, the pace of collapse has accelerated. The currency lost 10% of its value in a single day. Russia has now halted all trades with foreign currencies until at least the end of the year.

What this means is that we won't be getting updates about the value of the Ruble. That isn't the same as halting the collapse of the currency, but effectively halts the news about the collapse of the currency.

Poor Belarus is under attack from Russian drone swarms! For those that don't know, Belarus is one of Russia's few allies. They let Russian troops invade Ukraine from Belarussian territory in the early days of the Ukraine war, and they've supplied Russia what any armaments they can spare. Now Russian drone swarms are flying into Belarus, and the Belarussian military is scrambling jets to shoot them down.

The reason isn't that relations have soured between Belarus and Russia, but rather Ukraine has a new weapon to defend itself from Russia drone attacks. Rather than shoot the drones down, the Ukrainians are broadcasting fake GPS signals at the drones which is causing the drones to adjust their course into Belarus.

He's signaling his openness to the Trump - Keith Kellogg Peace Plan. Russia is similarly signaling their willingness to implement the plan. It is looking like Trump is going to make good his vow to end that war.

Very disappointing way for it to end with Russia being rewarded.

In a way that's just world history. Every single country right now exists because someone conquered someone else and claimed the land and resources. Look what the Europeans did to the native Americans if you want to see atrocities nearly beyond imagination. We are just far enough along as an international world now to be able to work together to withstand land-grabs like this. Unless we just... don't.

And if we don't it is just pathetic and sad also nearly beyond belief.

Yeah I thought the basic "lesson" from WWII was to not tolerate this type of ****. The UN is supposed to be the international body to to prevent conquests like this, but it's a joke. NATO is more than capable of taking care of this but we're doing the classic "how about if we tie our hands behind our backs and then try" strategy. Now Trump has returned to power, in a move by U.S. voters to let the world know just how ****ing stupid and backwards we are.

Never thought growing up, being fed so much America **** Yeah and eating it up like candy, that I would eventually wish I had been born somewhere else, like Germany or France.

America has a chance to really strike a blow to some major autocrats without a single American firing a shot. Too bad we gave our country away to autocrats because we want a teevee president in our lives again.
