The *OFFICIAL* Russia Is About To Invade Ukraine Thread

The point of the war was to ensure the continued existence of Ukraine. The war's aims were accomplished. Ukraine kicking Russia out of all territory taken since 2014 wasn't going to happen. Ukraine had done what it needed to do, and the United States was willing to help rebuild. Zelensky ruined all of it. Zelensky may have single-handedly made Russia taking all of Ukraine inevitable. In one boneheaded meeting, Zelensky just snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. Zelenksy just betrayed all of those who died in the effort of fighting for an independent Ukraine.

Zelensky knows Putin. You don't.

At this point, the "continued existence of Ukraine" is an impossibility for Putin. He's an old, sick man who knows he doesn't have many years left. Before he dies, he wants to cement his place among the "great" Russian leaders/dictators, and "taking back" Ukraine has been chosen as his crowning achievement.

Forget ceaserfires, forget deals. Putin will never forget or forgive that Ukraine embarrassed him. Any "peace" will be temporary unless the Russian economy collapses (we're headed that way, and offering any lifelines now would be insane).

The only cheers I'm hearing are coming from the MAGA side. The rest of the world is embarrassed and terrified.
You aren't being honest because you upvoted it!
Zelensky sniffed out Trumps desperation for a deal and a political win and flexed all over him in front of the whole world. Brilliant.
That doesn't sound like embarrassed and terrified to me. That sounds celebratory, and you upvoted it.

trump never wanted zelensky to take the deal. You dont insult the person you are dealing with while also praising the instigator in the conflict if you want the deal to be done.
Either trump didn't want zelensky to take the deal or trump is an idiot who doesn't understand how to seal the deal.

Its funny when someone gleans way too much intent/information from an "upvote", whatever that means.

I often "like" posts I disagree with simply due to the presentation of the post or the work that went into it or whatever.

He, once again, doesn’t understand his leverage. He thought he could pressure Zelensky both with his own people and with “peace” without security assurances.

There is no peace without assurances.

Trump is pissed because he almost had him! He was all giddy before the meeting and melted down completely in front of everyone. Zelensky probably waited to turn him down on camera so everyone knew he won’t sell out to Trump and Putin.

This is very embarrassing for the U.S.
Rubio’s head will roll.

And if he had made a glorious deal with Zelensky today and criticized Putin as a ruthless dictator and warmonger his followers would be explaining why that was the exact right thing for him to do. But it went the other way, so they are currently explaining why getting into a shouting match in front of the press in the Oval Office and kicking Zelensky out of the White House was the exact right thing for him to do.
Agree 100% because both would have been the right thing to do. The deal was a step in the peace process and ending this war is the right thing to do. Zelensky getting in a shouting match made clear he had no interest in cooperating in anything that would bring peace and Trump was right to kick him out. Both of those scenarios would be the exact right thing to do.

The wrong thing was Zelensky insulting Trump on camera for personal clout with the result being catastrophic for Ukraine. What Zelensky did today was to figuratively whip his Johnson out to urinate on dead Ukrainian soldiers so he could be praised for what an award-winning Johnson he had.

Vance, for his part, fully inhabited the role of a smarmy talk-show sidekick, jumping in to make sure the star got the support he needed while slamming one of the guests. The vice president is an unserious man who tries to insert himself into serious moments, but this time the stakes were much higher than the usual dustups with the media or congressional Democrats. He chuckled as Brian Glenn, a journalist from the right-wing channel Real America’s Voice who is reportedly dating Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, asked Zelensky the tough and incisive question of why he had not worn a suit in the Oval Office. (Perhaps he’ll ask Musk why he wore a hat and T-shirt to a Cabinet meeting, but I doubt it.)

The sheer rudeness shown to a foreign guest and friend of the United States was (to use a word) deplorable as a matter of manners and grace, but worse, Trump and Vance acted like a couple of online Kremlin sock puppets instead of American leaders. They pushed talking points that they either knew or should have known were wrong. Even if Zelensky were as fluent and capable in English as Winston Churchill, he would never have been able to rebut the flood of falsehoods. No, the U.S. has not given Ukraine $350 billion; yes, Zelensky has repeatedly expressed his thanks to America and to Trump; no, Zelensky was not attacking the administration. The Ukrainian leader did his best to stand up to the bullying, but Trump and Vance were playing to the cameras and the MAGA gallery at home.

Vance showed how dedicated he was to point-scoring rather than policy making with an observation so shallow that he was lucky that Zelensky was too off-balance to call him out for it. To emphasize Ukraine’s perilous situation, Vance noted that Zelensky was sending conscripts to the front lines, as if this was an unprecedented policy that only the most desperate regime would dare enact. Zelensky said that all nations at war have problems, but he might have pointed out to Vance that Ukraine is fighting for its very existence, while the United States has dragged conscripts to places far from home—including Korea and Vietnam—to fight against troops supported by the Kremlin.

The entire international order of peace and security is now in danger, as Russian autocrats, after slaughtering innocent people for three years, look forward to enjoying the spoils of their invasion instead of standing trial for their crimes. (Shortly after Trump dismissed Zelensky from the White House, Putin’s homunculus, former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, posted on X: “The insolent pig finally got a proper slap down in the Oval Office.”)

This is truly a sad day. It seems maybe I've been accused of being gleeful in regard to the White House meeting today. Nothing could be further from the truth. My faith in my own nation, a nation I served in uniform, was severely diminished today. My pride to be a U.S. citizen has taken a hard hit. My hope for the future of the U.S. has been lessened. Today was bad.

Fox News: “The free world needs a new leader”

LOL

Russia

Russian officials, however, did voice their support for how the day unfolded.

Former Russian President and current deputy chair of Russia's security council, Dmitry Medvedev, took to X to call Zelenskyy an "insolent pig" and claimed he "finally got a proper slap down in the Oval Office."

"And Donald Trump is right: The Kyiv regime is ‘gambling with WWIII’," he added
