The Official Trey Burke Evaluation Thread

You guys are ridiculous. The most important thing a PG can do is run an offense to get guys open and them get that guy the ball. The second most important thing they can do, almost as much as the first, is be able to reliably knock down any open jumpers and long-range shots. That's 90% of being a PG. Those are the abilities that actually make a difference and they're the ones that time and time again become relevant on every possession. Anything else is gravy, and being elite in a couple of other extraneous areas doesn't really make up for a lack of the above mentioned. So we can continue to excite ourselves over the next guy with "explosive athleticism" or "unbelievable length" but the question you'll have to ask yourself is if these guys are really PGs.

It's a summer league game.

He looked as if he was trying to figure things out and it was slowing him down a bit. I only saw him in the Final Four in college, but he looked quicker and faster then, than he did today.

Well if you've been running the same offense for the past 6 months, and know your team mates' tendencies, you'd be quicker and faster too...

Dude wait until there is an actual offense being run that he knows with some talent around him. Defensively I thought Burke did well staying in front of his man. Offensively I think he was trying too hard at times to create for himself, but there were a couple drives that he dumped off perfectly.
Soooo. Like next year after Corbin is fired? Just kidding....Kind of.

Even Dwight around your lips Howard had a bad debut SL game.

You fellas need to chill out.

It's going to funny when he has all the haters eating their words.

I don't know of a single burke hater.
Lots of big al haters, cj miles haters, ty corbin haters etc etc.
I have yet to see a burke hater

I do however know of a lot of posters who watched todays game and said that burke played poorly IN TODAYS GAME but I don't think that makes someone a hater

I'm not worried about Burke. We knew going into the draft that he didn't have elite athleticism, but he sure seems to have enough to get by his guy, to play solid defense and to run pick and roll or pick and pop. He's had limited time to get ready and he was trying to lead the team from the first second he got on the floor as a Jazz player. That and his hustle to grab rebounds bode well for him moving forward. He's a good passer, a good shooter and he showed adequate defense and rebounding. Working with Kanter, Favors, Hayward and Burks will help him settle down and get his shot under control. Glad to see that when it's off he's aggressive in getting close to the basket and engaging defenders. He'll be fine. It was basically the kind of debut that I expected, but his shot was off.

I think that the Rookie of the Year hype has got Jazz fans expectations too high right now. There's going to be bumps and he's going to be under a microscope. He'll be fine. One SL game is no where near enough info to evaluate. He'll watch film, practice, get quality minutes and grow into the player many of us think he's capable of.
