Frankly if that were happening we would all be ecstatic. But it's not. Instead he scores 16 on 5-20 shooting and 0 assists, 0 steals and 3 turnovers. In that case his 16 points was negated by how many crappy shots he took and how he plays little to no defense. Then he occasionally has a game that breaks that mold and maybe shoots 40% or 45% and suddenly he is God incarnate.

Trust me if he were shooting anywhere near 50%...EVER...he would be our darling. Instead he is our red-headed step-child.

I resent that remark...

Edit: *but I agree with the rest.*

He's currently a worse overall shooter and more inconsistent than Burke, which is really saying something. It's a huge hit to the team when he gets pulled for his poor shooting because he's better than Burke at the other things that matter for a PG (namely perimeter defense and getting others involved in the offense).

exum isn't better at anything than trey other than his defense and length. trey is much better floor general than exum. that's saying alot because trey 'ok at best' floor general.

Trey Burke has my unconditional love-- and that's all that matters.

It really doesn't say much at all. He gets a partial pass for being a rookie going up against vets every night. I am much more interested in his defensive effort since that is a personal pride thing while offense is what every kid plays from 5 years old on. His offense will come along fine. I just hope he keeps turning up his defense.

Now for Burke there is no excuse other than he is a chucker.

Trey shoots because we don't have an alpha dog shooter. 12.9FGA is a chucker? only in Jazz forum. lol

Lakers tank is strong. Even their TV guys are in on it, they called the game a loss down 7 with over a minute to play.

Ok but if we're down 9 and no one's scoring but all of a sudden Trey comes in and knocks down two 3s that put us within 3, he gets no cred for that..

I disagree. The most often repeated complement to Trey is that he is clutch and hits big shots. It's crazy

But career FG% is 37.6% and his career 3 pt% is 32.8%. But the worse part is that this year he is doing ever so slightly worse in both those %s. That is horrendous. If he can fix that then I'm all on board but the Burke criticism is absolutely valid. I don't want a 37% shooter taking 13 FGs a game.

So yes fabtrey, a 37% career shooter gets called a chucker for taking 13 shots a game.

But that does not mean he hasn't improved. Look at that stutter he has develope din his drives that fools people. It is clear that he has been working on that little floater in the lane. Also I am very high on the way he has handled his reduced role and demotion to back up PG. That indicates he is a qaulity locker room guy and that is valuable too.

Overall I still have hope for Trey but he has major flaws.

Jesus dude, can you be any more on his d*ck? Floor general? Trey over dribbles 90% of the time forcing a ****ty shot, usually by him, and no one else seems to get involved in the offense because of it. He also likes to not use his screens in those situations and would seemingly rather do it all on his own.

I just have to remind myself that he's a 2nd year player who has had a good attitude about being demoted and has shown a willingness to work hard, listen to his coach and try to get better. And Quin seems to like him, which is a major positive in his favor.

I think his physical limitations will always hamper him. Dante's upside is so much higher, it's really not a fair comparison. I'm fine with him coming off the bench, but the defense suffers when he does. My guess is that some team will view him as a possible starter in the right system on a cheap contract and he'll get moved as a result. But maybe not.

I'm glad that he stepped up and finished things strong last night. If he does that more often, I'll re-evaluate my position on him.

He does get credit for that: nice work Trey. Unfortunately, we have seen this movie before. Next 3 games he is too likely to go 3 for 15, 1 for 9, and 0 for 11. His one hope to play in this league is to be a good shooter. So far, he is failing at that.

With that said, I think that his game has evolved this year AND he's been better from the bench. I'm still hopeful that the Jazz will make another run at Chip Engelland this offseason. Quin was a rookie HC and Chip has a good thing going in San Antonio. After the way the season has gone and the obviously impressive future ahead of the Jazz players, I could see a coach being intrigued if the money is good enough.

I'm still hoping for a more athletic, better defensive backup for Dante, but I'd probably hang onto Trey if they had a shooting coach like Engelland to work with his shot. More consistency from the bench scoring (as well as the starters) would be HUGE for this team. Just improved free throws would have put them square in the middle of the playoff picture this season.

I loved Trey's play last night. Was really a shot in the arm that we needed when everyone else looked drained and out of sync. But I have always felt that Trey is more of a SG than a PG. Because he seems to have a shoot before pass mentality. But great game by Trey. Just wish he was more consistent.
