I love Favs... And would have real pause in trading him. I am not sure if we are an amazing defense because of Rudy or because of Rudy and Favs. I'm going to do some homework and see what I find... If trading Favs causes us to lose our defensive prowess it would be a mistake.

The idea here is that we won't be able to get a really good free agent since our starting spots are mostly taken. If we traded Favs there are some good free agent PF options that may be able to provide 80-90%. Millman has been mentioned and there are others that might fit... Greg Monroe (don't love this one), Tobias Harris... some stretchy guys Jeff Green, Thad Young... some one or two year fill in guys David Lee, David West, Boris Diaw... and then some fall back (oh **** we struck out on other guys) Amir Johnson, Brandon Wright, Ed Davis.

It would be a BALLSY move, but say you can trade Favs to NY for Porz and salary filler (prolly have to take Calderon) but take back a little less salary so we have max space... would you do it?

Full disclaimer I dont think I would, but its kind of interesting to discuss... Again the idea is you get a good deal for Favs and utilize your cap space better than you could otherwise. Would give our roster some more upside, but could also derail the progress we've made.

Favors and 12 to Milwaukee for the Mormon Jordan and #17 seems fair to both team.

Milwaukee drafts Frank Kaminsky at 12, they get their new arena and push for the 5th seed in the east.

Much more likely that whoever you pick at #4 is a bust than he becomes a better player than Favors. That is a bad trade.

Maybe... if you can replace a decent part of what Favors does with your cap space it might be worth taking the chance... I wouldn't say its much more likely the 4 is a bust. More likely than not... sure.

Favors was a top 3 pick who is under 25 years old, has improved every year, is on a team friendly contract, loves playing in Utah and actually fits well with our defensive monster at center. He's starting to come into his own at PF and looks to be a core piece of one of the top rated defenses in the league. Considering the circumstances, Utah is lucky to have him and would take a huge step back if they traded him. I can see him being part of the conversation for a franchise caliber player, but that's not happening. Better off keeping him in his current role and seeing how the pieces fit for a season. Would rather have 12 and Favors than 4 and anyone they could realistically get to replace him.

I pretty much agree. I think I forget how good he is.

One thing... I would not send the 12 in that trade... unless it got us to #1 and we could take Towns.

Favors WONT be traded. All he's done is improved every season. Millsap is likely at his peak. The reason Utah is elite defensively is not solely because of Gobert. It's because if/when they go away from Rudy, another great defender is there waiting. It's just nonsense to believe the Jazz would ever consider trading Derrick for a draft pick and then HOPE Paul has forgiven them for letting him go ( or that they can get a comparable FA).

Or that Paul will continue to play as well here as he has in Atlanta. . . not to state the obvious, but the East is not the West.

To me the question is Paul Millsap (assuming we can get him... the super trustworthy Spence Checketts said its a "done deal") and Porzingis (could bust or could be an all-star and may be a better fit long term) vs. Favors and whatever FA we can bring in... I'm just not sure what we can land that fits that wouldn't leave us with a potential playing time log jam.

The fourth pick has yielded Russel Westbrook, Chris Paul, and Chris Bosh during the last ten years... It has also brought some busts like Dion Waiters and Wesley Johnson... and some good players like Mike Conley, Tyreke Evans, and Tristan Thompson.

If DL believes our core is good enough to be a contender then I wouldn't make a move... if we still believe we need to take a risk this wouldn't be the worst move ever.

this is extremely unlikely, but is kind of interesting to discuss to me... I think Checketts is talking out of his butt again about the Millsap stuff.

Assume we trade and get the 4th pick and a 2017 nyc first for Favors.

Trade: 4th, 12th, our 2017 first, Knicks 2017 first, OKC 2017 first, GSW 2017 first and Exum for Anthony Davis.

Hayward, Davis, Gobert, OMG

Damnit HH, I even said Tia. Favors is officially the most underrated player in Utah now. Utah is on the verge of something special, and Favors is a big part of that. There are many reasons why Favors isn't getting traded, and I'm on my phone right now, so I can't write the book of a post I'd like to, so I'll make it short for now. It's a terrible idea and it ain't happening.

No. As Ellis stated, Favors is on a great contract and he likes it here. He's not one of those players starving for big city night life. He's a lifer. No to trading him - even for Towns. Screw that.
