The Trey Burke Thread

He got into the paint on Iso's with the Hornets, In LA hes just needed to be a floor general, Blake gets the lion's share of shots. Jamal Crawford is there for Iso's.

Chris Paul is going to make the Hall of Fame. you are crazy. Kobe stole his MVP in 07-08.

Trey Burke blocking a 5'11 guard is not as impressive as Chris Paul dunking on a young Dwight Howard, sorry.

What was the point of this highlight? Every basket Chris scores is either in transition or on some variation of a screen play. You are making my point with this particular reel.

Your point sucks, its not even a reach, its a flat out ****ty comparison that only a homer would make. Delusions of grandeur.

Chris Paul was the #1 offensive option(16.1 attempts per game) on the Hornets while leading the league in assists and steals in his 3rd season while shooting 49% from the field and 37% from 3.

??

I don't want to get into a pissing match because I'm as excited about Exum in a Jazz uni as anyone, but to not acknowledge that weakness is either deluded or ignorant.

I did notice that Everytime he crossed the ball to his left hand he had to pick up his dribble when being trapped, or most double teams.

Trey is still a decent prospect and is handling the Exum stuff well right now. He is no Chris Paul and he isn't an ISO blow by type of guy... In a pick and roll system he is more effective. Don't judge him on SL ball as ISO guys are typically better in these situations. The offense isn't very crisp in these settings and the best offensive big he has to work with is Thomas or maybe Gobert (will someone throw a frickin lob to this guy?). SL is not Burke's jam.

Think some vids are in order. Let's remember what he's capable of and not just what he lacks. Remember. ROOKIE.

It would be nice if we had a highlight video showing his court vision and passing. This is all shooting.

CP3 struggled a bit on his 3's his rookie year, but still managed to shoot 43% overall (compared to 38% for Trey).

Last season there were 28 "qualifying" PG's who shot better than Trey (qualifying means more than 300 makes). Add in the players who were injured, were backups or just didn't shoot as much (e.g. Bledsoe, Livingston, Lin, Jack, Hill, etc.) and you can drop Burke another 10+ spots. Burke does not do enough other things well to be a PG in the 40% or under range in FG%.

Court vision, passing, "intelligence" - try to put lipstick on the pig as much as you want. Unless Trey improves his shooting, he has no place in the starting lineup. If he can't shoot, opposing PG's can just play 5 feet off and make passing inside very difficult. And face it, he's certainly not a "lockdown defender" so he gives Utah no advantage on the other side of the ball.

Trey shot 38% overall, 33% from three.

yeah, he's gotta pull at least 45% and 39% to have much of anything like "star power." He can do a few things pretty well, but he has to get a lot more efficient.

He was a rookie last year. Its not like he has been in the NBA for 5 years

I just don't get what people are talking about when they say Trey's to slow or can't get into the paint?

He's plays the game at a great pace which allows him to make high IQ reads. He makes the defense commit before making the pass or taking the shot. It's what PG's that are seasoned veterans do. That pace puts serious pressure on the defense. So long as Trey is connecting on that mid range jumpers the bigs have to make a split decision on PNR whether to sag down to defend the roll man or step out to defend Trey.

Trey isn't Russell at attacking the basket, but that isn't necessary and again neither is CP3. Go watch videos of Chris Paul and after you watch his superior handles(which he has improved apon year after year his handle was more on par with Burke's year 1 and 2), but he isn't explosive to the rim and he puts that same pressure on the defense with pace and great decision making.

Thank you for showing me a few of his top plays where he gets into the paint and scores. Didn't happen a lot, and he missed many shots when he did get in the paint.

Check it out, John Lucas is really good and Lebron can't stop him. He should be starting.

I hope he does improve. I personally am not excited about his shooting and court vision. I also think he dominates the ball too much.
