The Two Things Holding the Jazz Back from Being Elite

I'm wondering if Donovan is now forcing everything because of the max contract. He might be feeling a lot more pressure than he used to and it could be getting to him. When he started out, he was a voracious learner and didn't really play "outside of himself."

Oh, to be clear, I am not saying this is a one-or-the-other thing. If I was doing eye-test analysis and some advanced stats skimming, he looks like chucker garbage if I'm being frank. I was trying my hand at being at moderating myself. Either way, not having Rudy there to clean up his haphazard play whether it's better or worse does expose him.

I think he's better than that and than he's been, but he HAS to be if this team is ever going to be a legit contender. I'm not pushing the eject button but the early returns have been very frustrating, especially since he just inked the damn deal.
I was hopeful after the bubble that he could be the supernova offensive talent we need. The weird thing about his play this year is the IQ side. He kinda telegraphs where he is headed and where he is passing it. Some of the passes have been terrible. The drives don't have the setup or change of pace needed to be successful... just hard fast straight line drives.

I think he has more paths to the next step than just foul drawing. His defense needs to improve. I am assuming this is a slow start and not what he will look like this year.

Without looking it up and without doing an eye-test analysis on his defense, I think Rudy getting pulled early and then playing with the bench unit is exposing Donovan in a serious way.

Early on last year Mitchell was getting the early sub and was supposed to carry the bench units. We got absolutely rolled in those minutes as well. Don is a good player, but Gobert is simply in a different class. Gobert can carry lineups no matter who he's playing with or against. Don's lineups without Rudy get smoked.

I was wondering if the new owner would be willing to break the bank and buyout Nikola Mirotic. You can always use more shooting and he's tons better on defense than Bogdanovic. He'd also be some extra scoring punch, if we suffer another injury in the playoffs.

C- Gobert
PF - Mirotic
SF - Bogdanovic
SG - Mitchell
PG - Conley

C- Udoka
PF- Favors
SF - Ingles
SG - O'Neale
PG - Clarkson

I wonder what other Euro options are out there that could give us a push or improve the roster in the 2nd half of the season.
