What's new

The Young Guys Talent.

Everyone saying they liked what it looked like when we played uptemtp.

Enter A. Gordon the small forward

And fingers crossed for Zach Lavine as well :)

If we already looked good running uptempo, wouldn't it make more sense to bring in someone who can help us when it slows down?

No, because winners dictate the pace. We look good when we ran, yet we were one of the slowest in the league last year because of slow players like RJ because of age, Marvin because of injury, and Trey because he was a half court pg and too used to 35 second shot clock in college.

Favors and Kanter and Burke can play well in the half court anyways, that should be enough.

We have this incredible advantage with the altitude, yet we aren't even using it. A waste.

His point is that you cant run on every possesion so it might be nice to have a guy who can play well in the half court

Exactly. Especially if we are wanting to construct a team that can perform in the playoffs.

Yeah, I understood his point, but think we should acquire more runners at this stage. Burke, Kanter, and Favors have decent halfcourt games as is.

We should probably have players who can do both. You can teach athletic players to play in the half court, but you can't teach slow and unathletic halfcourt gurus to be athletic and explosive.

I think you can teach most players both, but they will always be strongest with their natural game (i.e running or half court), and we have a lot more runners than half courters right now.

Of course who is doing the coaching is possibly the most important part of the equation.

Too bad defense is still underrated.

Jazz would win it by 20 if they knew how to play defense as a team, especially the backcourt. For every great effort they have shown on the court, they've allowed more in their rim. If you do that, you sweat for nothing. This video is just another reason why the Jazz need a defensive minded HC and staff.

Most young players are poor defensively. I think it has a lot to do with conditioning. You have to be in serious shape to play at a high level on both ends. Also there's adjusting to the speed and being comfortable with a defensives set so they can react and make the right reads as opposed to being on the court thinking and being a step too slow.

Just watched some more highlights. Saw a lot of good passes by Favors and solid play from Burks. I bet they make the jump next year as serious players.

I agree about both of them..... and m i believe kanter might make the jump as well.

Add in improvement from trey, plus a better bench and the jazz might suprise people.

Not to mention an upgrade in coaching and a high draft pick in a very good draft

We need a real coach first and foremost. Then, watching those highlights, it had me thinking maybe I like Smart at 5 more than Vonleh only from a "immediate impact/we need a killer to lead this group" standpoint.

I keep going back and forth. Exum dropping would obviously change things.

Watching this clip makes me think that Kanter will come back better after a healthy offseason-- and makes me hesitant to trade him given that we'll probably be drafting Vonleh.

Damn damn damn. Wish we would've snagged a top-3 pick.
