What's new

This Is Awesome!

Guns for cowards, I use machete and knifes for home defense. Plus, cutting and slicing people is much more enjoyable.

You know what's funner than that? Is lighting people on fire. I rig a bucket of gasoline above my front door, and when you break in, you trip the trap that's when I throw a match at you.

I'm a muslim, I can bomb you easily and that would be the funnest.

Shotguns are not well suited for silencing. A silencer will only dampen the sound caused by the explosion of the gunpowder, and even that only to a limited degree. A large diameter bore, like a shotgun, makes dampening the sound more difficult. Things like the bolt will still make considerable noise, as well as the bullet breaking the sound barrier and causing a small sonic boom.

Damn, GF, is there anything about guns you don't know?

Have you ever tried the cut shot where you score the plastic casing of a shell to turn a regular shotgun shell slug-like?

I talk a good game, but I'm not really any kind of gun expert. I used to be a regular on a web site called www.thehighroad.org I left for a short time and when I came back it was all jacked up. Guess after the original owner of the site died there was a dispute as to who owned it (like if Jason was to die and Colton fought with kicky over who owned the server, files, etc.) and the site just wasn't the same. Anyway, it was a great site where if people came in talking like they were ready to go all Zimmerman they would get piled on by people telling them that their attitude was unsafe and they were not supported by responsible gun owners. A lot of good folks there with really good advice and gun knowledge. I learned a lot.

I like shooting. It was one of the few things my father and I did together. The other was watching Jazz games. Other than the occasion question I asked him about physics or whatnot he mostly kept to himself.

That's mildly terrifying. Any idea why that works?

This picture should shed some light. The "wad" is a plastic insert that is expelled along with the shot. Typically it catches a little wind resistance and is separated from the shot, at which point the shot begins to spread out. By cutting the shell you cause the shell itself to separate at the cut and the shell holds the shot and wad together so they act as a single projectile.

Here's a comparison of a shotgun slug shell and shotgun buckshot shell
