Thoughts On The Immigration Reform Proposal

True but if that is the route we are going then we are all in trouble. I'm willing to bet everyone here has broken some law at some point and not been punished or caught. Knowingly or unknowingly we have all broken some law.

Have you illegally entered another country? So you think we should assume they didn't know they were doing something wrong when they had to "buy" a SS#, and use a name not their own?

I'm not arguing the legality of what they have done. It is obviously illegal. However talking about deporting them or self deportation is realistically a non starter. It simply won't happen. What are they going to do to make it happen? Kick in doors and ID everyone?

I am looking for realistic solutions instead of ideological ones.

As for the SSN part. They many times, I'd say over 50%, do not file taxes. So they are paying all that money into the system without trying to get tax returns. That is a big financial windfall for the federal gov.

No more handouts/incentives for them to come here illegally. If you really think about it, they are all criminals, considering they broke the law when they came here ILLEGALLY.

Rules of society don't apply to members of societies without rules.

I'm not self righteous enough to look down on any of our southern neighbors who sneak into this country hoping for a better life without poverty, corruption, sickness & death, and no opportunity. I expect the most determined to sneak in out of moral fortitude, not a lack thereof.

One more thing. This wouldn't be an issue if republicans weren't scared to death that all illegals will automatically join the democratic party. Republicans don't give a damn about doing the right thing. They care about party power and little more.

In all fairness the Dems only care about their party power as well. The reason they want a path to citizenship is that they assume it will give them that many more votes. Nothing more and nothing less.

The only catch is that their path to party power conveniently involves doing the right thing in this case.

You're both right. Both parties are full of themselves & politicians who only care about getting reelected and keeping the status quo. I'm a conservative, more libertarian & I can't stand 90% of who's there from both parties. Call me an equal-opprtunity cynic.

Well, this would be an entirely different discussion if the immigrants slipping over the border without caring to apply for and follow the legal pathways were bible-thumping human rights believers who want the protections of the American Constitution for their protection against overlord governance.

The Democrats would be howling to police the border, and arrest the illegals and ship them home.

This time it does involve doing some of the right thing in my opinion. Occassionally that happens to one side or the other. But their motivation is not pure. Their motivation is power.
