Sorry @Saint Cy of JFC ... you fought the good fight.
Bout to dominate the 2nd units
I enjoyed the experience, but he can't be a starter in a lineup that is spacing challenged .THT finally gonna be able to cook in his ideal role

How much are we supposed to pay him again? 80 million? Point god thtTHT’s shooting stats through 16 games:
Career low 38.8% from the field, 30.6% from 3, career low 45.2 EFG% and a career low 48.9 TS%.

I can handle a reckless drive here or there… it’s the pull-up three with like 18 seconds on the clock that drives me crazy. Just an unnecessary bonehead move.I haven't checked advanced stats, but when he is wide open on a catch and shoot I think his percentages are a bit more reasonable. A professional basketball player shooting a wide open three should not have the ball entirely miss the rim. THT has done it multiple times this season. And for every good play he makes a horrible one (like the reckless drive in the lane with a horribly missed layup that turned into a quick 2 in transition for NO. So not only did he not score, it resulted in a potential 4 point swing. That tends to happen a lot with him. Just a low BBIQ.
Agree, though Holmgren looks awesome when he puts it all together. Now that this issue is settled, can we talk about the "I'm not buying the hype in OKC" hot take?
Basically any jumper from him makes me cringe. The problem with reckless drives is it puts a perimeter player (one of the first to get back on D) out of position, leading to easy transition points for the other team. The most impressive thing about Keyonte's poster was how fast he got back on defense. He has a good motor.I can handle a reckless drive here or there… it’s the pull-up three with like 18 seconds on the clock that drives me crazy. Just an unnecessary bonehead move.
That's so crazy. The PG touches the ball the most? Wow. You're really doing the important work here.
He's a great switch defender. You don't want him on primary screen users. Excellent on helpside as wellThe more and more I try to analyze THT and how he could turn into a contributor I draw blanks as to what role he could fill.
Defense:
He is decent. His biggest issue is he cannot guard on-ball close to the skin as his first step lateral quickness and footwork just isnt good enough and he gets burned even by some mid guards. His recovery is ok but you cannot really play defense just chasing guys all day. He can poke the ball with those long arms, but if you cant play close to the skin you wont get many chances to do that. He also has to go under screens as he just dies and disintegrates when trying to go over them. Whenever he sees a screen coming he blocks the ball carrier from using the screen and gives free lanes towards the help defense which is not optimal, good recovery and chase down or not. So essentially for him to be good, he has to defend off ball where he does have the wingspan to get in passing lanes, contest shots and swipe balls when someone drives to his side.
Offense:
This is where the real issues come in. His skillset makes no sense in modern NBA. He cannot catch and shoot at the rate required for an NBA player so he has to play an on-ball role. But on-ball his handles are not NBA level for either a lead guard or a 2 guard. He can pass, but he cannot finish with efficiency from any level so he cannot really be a slasher either. He also doesnt draw nearly enough free throws. So if he isnt on the ball, he destroys spacing. If he is on the ball, he is a turnover or missed shot waiting to happen unless he passes the ball. And as a pure playmaker or passer he falls far short of what you would need from a guy like that. His lobs are too often wildly off the mark and he doesnt have a deep bag of efficient passes or advanced reads.
So as a summary he isnt good enough to be categorized as a defensive specialist and he cannot really play off the ball on offense. So what is he? Maybe some new role title needed here.
Dribble and pass help defense specialist? Do we need one of these really?
