What's new

Time to jump aboard a SF bandwagon

Tonight was the first time I got an NBA personnel to tell me, by the player, their prediction (I've asked 50 times, it seems). I asked for first round .. they stopped with what they called 'the lottery' but was actually thru 16.

Davis
Drummond
TRob
Barnes
Sullinger
MKG
PJones3
Brad Beal
JLamb
QMiller
Rivers
Henson
TJones
Lillard
Marshall
TZeller

Very interesting. It is looking more and more like BPA is the way to go. We will have a log jam, you can count on that.

As PKM said, the top 3 are the only SFs worth taking in the lottery. Taylor is projected to go around #20, where we don't have a pick anyway. We have to go with BPA, so getting more educated on guys that aren't lottery-worthy seems kinda pointless, to be honest. We should look at guys like D-Miller cause he'll be in the 2nd round, sure, but we're not going to reach on someone like Taylor in the lottery.

I usually agree with everything that you have said on here but I have to disagree with you on this. I know that both our picks are going to end up in the lottery or right after the lottery.

The reason that I said that we should get more educated on the other options is because things rarely fall into place like you want them to. This true with everything and the lottery is certainly included in that. What happens if the Jazz make a draft day trade and get a pick in the mid 20's? What if the Jazz are able to move up in the draft? What about obtaining early 2nd round picks? The more educated we are the better off we are.

Not that knowing what kids can bring to the table will help when it comes time for drafting, but it will give us peace of mind. That can be a powerful thing especially with the way that things are going with the Jazz right now.

We're cool and I know you didn't intend your post to read this way, but what you wrote sounds as though we are making the decision or have a vote somehow.

You're right, that is not how I intended for that to be understood. Maybe my own interest in becoming more educated on all possible options overflowed into telling others that they should.

I'm sure that I am not thinking straight today. Sick wife and kids.

If Barnes and MKG are off the board I still want PJIII. I still think he could be a 3, and he'd give us an enormous frontcourt.

Fair enough.

I love the idea of a giant front court like that, but has anyone ever heard Jones express an interest in playing SF?

It would be nice, but I think Beal and Rivers might be better than all the SF's other than Barnes.

I think, like many, he's said it because of two reasons;

1) Draft stock
2) Like to chuck 3's

Okay, that wasn't nice .. but largely true.

Can't deny that possibility. Maybe even just straight up agree ..

Rivers will do well. Beal will do well. MKG will do well. Most upside is Quincy .. and he may do nothing.

Why do you say that? Assume the GS pick is in the 8-10 range. From that list, the Jazz could easily take a SF within 2 spots of where he is ranked by that particular NBA personnel guy. And then with their own pick (12-14), that's right around where Lillard is projected. Or maybe Jazz take 2 wings and draft a PG in the 2nd round. Or use the Memo TPE and/or Harris contract next season to get a PG.

We definitely have options. What are our picks at right now? 10 and 12? Based on the mock PKM posted, I'd say we go with Miller and either Lillard or Marshall (what we've all been predicting for quite some time).

Not that it matters, but I should disclose that this particular scout, that threw out this list, is a Pacers guy. Not sure it matters, at all, but thought I'd share.

Son of a bitchin' Pacers!!! (......right?........)

I hate the whole damn NBA other than the Jazz. I'm just a college enthusiast that picked up the Jazz about 7 years ago as my pro team. Before that I didn't give a damn. After 7 years, I'm wishing I had kept it that way, lol.

Quincy just ticks me off sometimes.
Today I have been wondering if a small ball type lone up might be the best. Think about this, Lillard or Marshall with Burks and Rivers. Then you have Kanter and Favors in there as well. I like the sound of that line up.

With every other game having us face a SF that torches us for 30+. jmho

If Burks defends the opposing SF, I don't think it would be much different than it is now.

At this point I just want the young guys to play more. I feel like I'm starting to lose mind, and I am sure that my recent posts are clear evidence of that.

Haha, no we all just throw stuff out there for discussion. Nobody knows, until the games are played, what the outcome would/will be. This is all just friendly (or sometimes unfriendly) thoughts/ideas/way of coping with the here and now.

You're not alone. I can honestly say I didn't really care what the Jazz' record would be this season. I was excited by the prospect of watching Kanter, Burks, Favors and Hayward start to develop some chemistry, then be joined by a new PG or wing next season. Wasn't that the OKC model...take some losses in Year 1 in order to be better in Years 2, 3 and forward?

Instead, I see, almost on a daily basis, some other youngster scoring 20 pts or pulling down 15 boards. Why? Because that team is giving him PLAYING TIME. But outside of Hayward, who truly has had a disappointing year, our other three lottery picks aren't given enough time to develop any consistency. I really hate the coaching staff right now - and KOC, Rigby and whoever else is letting it happen. All I know is that Sloan started playing Deron more after Larry H. used the word "fire," in whatever context you believe he meant. Unfortunately Greg has little passion for the game and management appears content with the status quo. Oh well, I can at least cheer against Miami, Chicago and the Lakers. While the Jazz are off vacationing, I'll be hoping for an OKC-Philadelphia series (or Indy or Orlando).
