One low key situation to monitor is Washington. Not only are they in the luxury again this year, but they are going to try to keep Oubre and probably Satoransky this coming summer. Here are two scenarios to monitor:

Otto Porter (less likely) - if made available, we could make a play for him. We could send a pick and take Mahinmi off their hands depending who all we send out.

Mahinmi - sure, he is worthless but his contract is almost exactly like Favors just one more year. His deal will keep Washington from keeping their core. If Washington could trade worthless Mahinmi for helpful expiring Favors, I bet we could get Troy Brown and a 1st, future pick swaps, something. Its a deal that wouldn't sacrifice 2020 cap space when there are more realistic, better fit targets out there.

I think its OP or nothing for us... but that is a situation I'm watching (not low key... I'm watching the eff out of it).

Projecting things out this summer... there is a lot of cap space and some star free agents, then some very good player FAs. I think guys like Harris, Middleton, and maybe Niko will get the max or close to it. I think 10 teams will end up having max spots (some may have multiple spots) and then some guys will return to their current teams... which means those max spots can move further down the list. You also have dumb teams with money... like NY and Phoenix. Next year's market may get a little hot, but if we offer max we have a real shot to lure Harris or Niko because we can offer a big role on a contender. Middleton and Niko may depend on their teams willingness to go the max and if their stars are looking like the will stay. If Giannis and AD sign extensions or indicate they are very likely to stick around I would think those guys stay put if the money is similar.

I think some will be shocked at what those guys get if healthy.

Just looked at something... Khris Middleton and Tobias Harris are both eligible for the second tier of max contract... so 30% of the cap... which can start at roughly $32M. Not sure either team is willing to go there with those guys... I'm not sure we are either but I definitely would with Middleton. If Milwaukee went there they'd either have to let Brogdon and Bledsoe both walk or be in the tax with their team.

It seems shocking but that is the kind of price you may have to pay for FAs. DM and Ingles on bargain deals... Rudy at the smaller max makes it possible to overpay a little. Paying that for one of those guys does likely mean one of Dante or Ricky are gone.

Here my issues with your trade idea s. They are all one sided. To think Washnigton would not only give up Brown but a future first as well shows how out of the loop you are. Shows you play NBA 2k to much and makes grades after every game you play.

They could stretch Ian too which would take a lot of the luxury tax sting out of the deal.

I do think they end up moving Otto but won’t be until the offseason imo. Assuming they are middle of the pack eastern conference team and don’t make a conference finals or something crazy.

Every trade idea I have is the start of the conversation. If you think GM's come out and start trade conversations with 100% even deals, you just don't understand the process. You start by reaching and then you concede some and you meet in the agreed upon middle.

Washington is in luxury repeater hell. Sure, they could stretch Mahinmi, but keeping Oubre at $15+ and stretching Oubre at $5 million per year the next 3 years will keep them in luxury hell for the foreseeable future. They aren't the type team that can sustain those type costs at mediocre results.

If we can conceive a trade that allows Washington to save enough money to get under the luxury ($6+) while also getting an upgrade as good as Favors, I don't think anything is off the table. In 3 games, Brown hasn't even touched the floor. I'm not saying he's not part of the future there, but Oubre and Porter seem like cornerstones they can't afford to lose.

I think Favs was signed as a placeholder and trade asset that might workout long term. Based on other signings and picks I think it’s clear it likely isn’t a long term partnership. DL knows all the lineup data and then some so he knows how could we are with stretch 4s.

I think we poke around some stuff in trades but then look at some of the B+/ A- free agents. Zach Lowe basically said we are looking arhat tier of player... Middleton, Harris, Niko

We can place calls to the super duper stars (and we likely will) but I doubt that call gets very far and that’s the end of it.

If OP Jr., Tobias Harris, Middleton (I highly doubt this one), or Love become available at a decent/discounted price then I can see us being more aggressive.

Give the current arrangement 4-6 weeks... let the sauce marinate.
whats the chance at aaron gordon in comparison to some of these dudes? Is he a complete pipe dream at this point? (i have no idea his contract situation btw so be gentle)

He's another good target. Depends on how Orlando plays, but he could be had at some point. Signed a 4/80M ish deal this offseason. Pretty reasonable honestly. It declines so would be very team friendly.

If exum plays well and is healthy I could see a Exum, 1st, and cap filler for Gordon... if Orlando struggles. They may be able to get more... their new GM is a sucker for length, so the thought of Dante at point likely would make him salivate more than most.
