Tinsley stays; Harris on block? Insider

agree with Mo being the Terry guy for us. He would be underwhelming as a starting PG on a team that needs creation and passing. Harris wasn't great in those departments but Mo isn't all that better

devin "doesn't fit the team"?? we have a ton of young guys that need the basketball. devin is far better at forcing defenses to react to him because of his elite speed and his ability to get into the lane. favors, hayward and paul will all have better opportunities to score if they're on the floor with devin.

mo "fits the team" better than devin in one way: he provides a needed shot in the arm in our long-range arsenal. but that doesn't make him a better fit as a point guard, and if he were our started it would take about three weeks for the players around him to get bored and the fans to turn on him. and if you don't believe me, go ask lebron and some cavs fans if i'm right.

again - mo will help, if given the right role. he can be our jason terry -- come off the bench, score in double figures, and often close games to spread the floor.

Elite speed and ability to get into the lane? This isn't 06 Harris, he isn't terrible but he finishes poorly at the rim and definitely lost a step

We need a point who will pass on the fast break. I hated how Harris would often keep the ball even though he had a guy running with him. That is a big no no. I think. You have to reward a guy for running with you. Especially if you are a pg and the guy to pass to is bigger and has a better chance at finishing. It pisses players off when that happens.

I would like to see the jazz trade Harris AND Watson. Then bring in a young pg to groom for the future maybe such as

Aj price
Daius Morris
Randy foye
deandre liggins
Randy foye
Patty mills

Or trade for Darren collinson.

I like Collison, I would add Eric Maynor to the list...

I agree with this. Harris would keep the ball most of the time. Josh Howard did the same thing.

I'm on the fence on this one. Having someone who can actually shoot with consistency and success would sure openup that clogged floor for all three of those guys to work within

sure, but at some point you need somebody to create open looks for all these guys who need the basketball.

seriously, as much problem as our second unit had scoring last season, i can't figure out why mo with the second unit isn't instinctively the answer. he'll also finish a lot of games with devin and probably average close to 30 minutes.

and then our injury contingency is faaaaar better than it was last year.

on paper they're actually pretty similar

(Career Averages)
Mo---------------Devin
PPG-13.8----------PPG-13.1
AST-4.9-----------AST-5.0
REB-3.0-----------REB-2.4
FG%-44.1---------FG%-44.1
3FG%-38.7--------3FG%-31.5
FT%-86.9---------FT%-80.1
AST%-27.1-------AST%-30.4
TOV%-15.1-------TOV%-15.7

Everything is kind of a wash besides the bolded, which i think will make a big difference. neither player is much of a distributer. even if harris gets in the lane more than mo (which is speculatory), their career ast/game indicate it doesnt make much of a difference IMO.

Minutes?

Keep both. Start Harris at PG. Start Williams at SG. Burks off the bench. Hayward start at SF with Carroll off the bench.

PG - Harris (Watson, Tinsley)
SG - Williams (Burks, Murphy)
SF - Hayward (Carroll)
PF - Favors (Millsap)
C - Jefferson (Kanter)

That's a solid team. Not a great team, but a solid team.

Williams would get absolutely annihilated when on defense at the 2.

Thank you for being the voice of reason. Not to mention that if you play Mo at the 2, then that either means that Hayward is not playing much or Burks is not playing much.

The Jazz need to decide who hey want long term. Is it Mo or is it Harris? The last thing that I want to see is that the addition of Williams means even less time for on young wing players.

Here is a list of FA pgs. I'm not liking the chances of Jazz trading Harris and his 8.5 million contract.
