To Kill A Mockingbird Sequel Coming

Weird situation. Obviously the question that's left is if it's any good. I'm mostly curious why it was never published or recreated considering it was work that was already in the can.

From what I recall in the biography, titled Mockingbird (and written with no input or cooperation from Lee), when To Kill A Mockingbird was so successful, Lee eventually became overwhelmed with all of the media attention, which was later renewed when the film came out. Lee started working on another novel and finished it, but she hated the media attention and eventually just made peace with the fact that she wasn't going to write another novel. Another key factor was that her editor on TKAM retired and passed away, and her literary agent (who she was very close to) passed away as well.

I'm not reading it if Boo Radley ain't in it.

The news article the OP linked to explains that.

This seems odd. It seems like exploitation or desperation. Maybe both.

It really does seem odd. On the page kicky linked to it mentioned that Lee's older sister (and lawyer) recently passed away, and that it's probably more than coincidental that the "new" novel is set to be published such a short time later. As for desperation on the part of Lee? I don't buy that theory at all.
