There are plenty of things I didn't like the first time that I like now. I am not referring to anything specific with you. Religion shapes people quite a bit. Most LDS people are really really similar. Although I would say you are not one of those.

I agree with that line of thinking. But if I don’t like the taste of beer or coffee, why the hell would I drink it? I don’t think my palette would change if I stopped going to church. I don’t like jalapeño peppers. Guess what. I don’t eat them. I don’t like cherry Pepsi so I don’t drink it.

Palette's do change. Sometimes you just have to try them to get used to them and you love them. Somethings you just dont like regardless. There are plenty of foreign foods or foods I didnt grow up eating I didnt like at first and now love them. There are also things I hated as a kid to eat that I love, I just had to get myself to eat and appreciate them over time. Beer and coffee are some of the most complex flavors of any foods on the planet. Good coffee beans can taste wildly different from each other. Same with beers. There are thousands of flavor profiles that are very very different from each other. Saying you dont like beer or coffee from trying it a couple times is like eating a carrot and saying you dont like any vegetable because you tried a carrot.

But those are really minor things. Its not like those are really that big of a difference. For me its just more of a cultural difference and experiences to be had are different. But if you're happy and you're helping your family be happy and not preventing others from living their life as they want to then good for you and keep it up!

My major complaint about church is indoctrinating kids into it. But I also understand why parents do it. They believe they are right and everyone else is wrong.

It’s no secret I’m LDS. As I sit and think about the stuff the LDS church prohibits, I can’t think of anything I’d do that I don’t already. When I tried smoking, I didn’t like it. Don’t really like drinking. I’ve tasted a couple of the beers Gameface has brewed. Let’s just say it’s a taste I haven’t acquired. Dislike the taste of coffee. You don't miss what you don't know. So, living an insulated life can be a happy one, like primitive people on a South Pacific island. But experience enrichens life and adds to it. They are two sides of the coin, so to speak. The important thing is that you are free to choose the path you follow.

I think Fish has made the most interesting point here.

How do you know there isnt an invisible unicorn in your living room in another dimension?

If you pay any attention to scientists, most believe that the universe is infinite, there are quite possibly other dimensions, other universes inside black holes, an infinite number possibilities, multiple versions of yourself and yourlife. And that time travel is probably possible. You also got quantum mechanics and all its craziness. We can communicate through airwaves, etc..

But ya @Gameface . The possibility of a god is just so far fetched. We are pretty much watching a magic show right in front of our eyes and you seem to think its just normal and no bid deal.

You dont have the slightest clue wtf is happening. Neither do I. Claiming you know there isnt a god is just as dumb as claiming you know there isnt. Maybe god really exists if you believe it does and it really doesnt if you dont believe. It could really be that weird.

If all the smartest people in the world havent figured out quite what the hell is going on, then I seriously doubt that you have.

How is the idea of there being a god any weirder and more far fetched than the idea of a multiverse and different dimensions and different versions of yourself?

Let's say there is God. Where did it come from?

The only way to realistically look at it in my opinion is we have no idea what is in charge, where it came from and how it relates to us. No one knows or ever will.

And to think there is a God looking out for us is ridiculous IMO. I'm perfectly fine with not knowing and not making something up to act like I know.

We mean nothing. We are a infinitesimally tiny pimple on the *** of the universe. And there are probably other str8lines, Fish's, Jazzta's, Gameface's, NPC's etc. somewhere in the universe having this same conversation right now.

Part of the problem may be trying to comprehend it in the first place. It may be impossible. Maybe the human mind has limits, and thats one of them.

I mean asking the question of where did the universe come from is the same as asking where did god come from isnt it? At least they are very similar.

I don't have to know anything.

When a positive claim is made it is up to the person making that claim to substantiate it.

If the claim is not supported it doesn't merit consideration.
