What's new

Tomic offered buyout:

Yes, put as little of shooting on the floor as possible is the new pattern of thinking.

wut? you think the spacing with Gobert-Tomic will be much/any different than with Gobert-Favors? If so, please provide evidence of why.

Anyone know when it was that Quin coached Tomic?
I don't think he ever coached him. I believe somebody got that wrong. I believe he has coached against him and seen him while coaching in one of the European leagues. At least that is what I remember reading.

Correct.

"He’s really improved, and Quin’s experience in the Euroleague, when he was in Moscow one year with Ettore Messina, he got to see a lot of these players which is a huge advantage for us, because he knew Joe Ingles. You know, as soon as Joe got waived, you know, he had corporate knowledge — they had coffee together in a lobby in Europe, and he knew that [Ingles] could fit the culture that we’re trying to build." - DL

"And the same thing with Ante. You know, immediately, he, Quin knew we had his rights before he ever took the job, and he was very excited about Ante, his size at 7-2, and his unique passing skills. And so, there are some things that are very intriguing, and we hope to have some serious dialogue going forward, and you never know." - DL

Grandpa, I think vegas is really just saying that Tomic is a good eater.

Oh He and LL. Guess you youngun's have a way with words that just eludes old dude's like me. Jokes on me. Looking back on it now his meaning should of been obvious. Tee Hee!

DL and others already addressed the PG position and how they view it as less of an issue than some fans.
With the ability to run the offense from other positions, the main priority of a PG will be less of being the main distributor/assist man. While that is still the main priority, there will be an increased focus on maybe bringing the ball up, defense, 3pters and keeping the ball flowing and moving just as all other positions should. Our PG won't be required to be either a Westbrook or a Paul clone where they dominate the ball in different ways.

I will continue to worry about the situation nonetheless. How about the question of scoring from that position. My guess is they will struggle to be very, very good if they continue to get 4 points a game (roughly) from the PG position starter, Trey would help the problem immensely just by shooting say 7 percent higher than last year. DL and others may/should worry about perceptions and positioning to make moves and stuff like that. Me, I am just a fan and it will concern me until some efficient production comes from the PG's. In other words if I were in DL position I would be saying the same thing.

Tomic can provide spacing because of his passing. Joakim Noah is a great passer, but terrible shooter, and he spaces the floor that way for the Bulls. Same with Marc gasol, although he has been stepping out with his shot lately more and more. Anyway, the passing will help some. By favors does have that reliable mid range game too, and hopefully a developing corner three.

That isn't providing more spacing, it's just being able to operate within the given space better.

Also, Noah isn't a terrible shooter. He is down this year, but he was pretty decent last year from midrange.

What makes you think that Exum won't provide better 3 pt shooting and D next year? And I am thinking burks will guard 1's with hood/Hayward/ingles initiating the offense.

From Sportando:

Ante Tomic asks €2 million to extend with Barcelona
The Catalan team doesn't want to pay so much, so a flight to USA for Tomic becomes possibile
Fc Barcelona Basquet will have a very busy summer, because the team may have to change many as eight players.

The Catalan team, Encestando reported, started to negotiate a contract extension with Croatian center Ante Tomic. The problem is that the big man seems to have asked €2 million to sign a new deal with his club.

Barcelona doesn't want to pay so much, also because such an expensive contract extension should cost almost €5.6 million with the new Catalan tax system.

For this reason he can explore the opportunity to join the NBA and sign with the Utah Jazz. The American team is looking to him to reinforce the frontcourt for next season.
