Why so much emotion? He's an asset, if the choice is use it or lose it, don't you have to use it? Maybe not you, but 99% of the rest of us say yes. I'd take that hypothetical 4th pick and not look back.

I'd still prefer to have him, but it would be hard to pass that deal up and have the pick of whoever they want after Towns, Okafor and Russell are all gone.

The hypothetical 4th pick would be the aforementioned king's ransom. I'd trade him and the 12 for the 4 pick even if he wanted to play here.

But if you can't get much for him I wouldn't trade him just because he wants to play in the NBA but not for the Jazz. That sets a bad precedent.

That's a fair and reasonable position. There's so much chatter on him, and really nothing concrete. Just lots of opinions. The Jazz front office has a better grip on the reality of it than any of us ever will. I'm hopeful that they can bring him over, just because I think he makes the team better and is more affordable than he'd be as a free agent already in the NBA. I guess we'll see.
 
I remember back in 2010, when Rambis was the Timberwolves head coach he scouted Tomic heavily in Europe and he was really intrigued.

At that time the Jazz had the #9 pick and the Timberwolves had the #4 pick. The rumored deal that would have got it done was Tomic & #9 for #4.

If we could use #12 + Tomic to move up to 7, 8, or possibly even 9, I would do it. If he doesn't want to play here might as well use him as an asset.

I hope it's (Tomic not wanting to play here) not true, but he wouldn't be the first guy to hold that opinion.

Yes sir, and the Jazz ended up with Hayward. Glad they were smart enough to see past it, although they probably thought of Tomic as a legit asset.
 
tomic is playing in one of the biggest basketball markets in Europe. I am sure that he wants to play in one of the biggest markets in the US.

Article makes it seem that Tomic wants to come to the NBA, just not to Utah. If that is the case, what are Tomic's rights worth? If Utah packaged Tomic (the best center in Europe) plus the #12, how high can they move up in the draft? I wonder if Tomic is stalling on signing a deal with CSKA, Madrid, or Barcelona because he wants to see if he will be dealt from Utah pre-draft.

The only other teams that could use a starting caliber center ahead of Utah in the draft are Charlotte, Miami, and Indiana, but that deal only makes sense if Tomic is 100% never coming to Utah and if players like Stanley Johnson or Booker drop that far. Plus, the only team out of that group that Tomic might be open to is Miami, as I can't see Indiana or Charlotte as that much more attractive to him than mega-cities like Barcelona or Moscow.

I thought it sounded like the Jazz may not be willing to pay what it would take to get him over here/Tomic may be worried about his role. For the Jazz he would be the 3rd big in a 4 man rotation. For some other teams he would be 2nd in a 3 man rotation. It's hard to chase a big second contract when you are that far down in the rotation. From the Jazz perspective how much do you pay for a guy with that kind of role? Sure he would choose living in Barcelona over SLC but I think that would be the case for most NBA cities.

I'd guess the Jazz-Tomic fit is the problem much more so than him not wanting to come to Utah.
