Trade deadline discussion

Zion could be the best player in the game if he applied himself, but his work ethic is awful. It worked for him in high school and college as his athleticism carried him and he wasn't carrying as much, but you can't be 300+ pounds in this league and expect to have a long career. You can't even comfortably carry 280 at his height.

At 250 pounds, he'd be close to unguardable, but is he willing to put that work in? I don't see it.
Idk, I comfortably carry 280 and I am barely 6'2". Well maybe not comfortably. Exhaustedly?

Portland has set themselves up pretty nicely to trade for Grant now if they want him. Dame, Simmons, Hart, Grant, and Nurkic has the makings of a rebuild already.
They should wait until the offseason... Dame sits the year and they land a primo pick to trade or develop.

Hard to say that New Orleans really lost this trade.

I'm pretty sure that New Orleans used the Exception to get Nance.

I guess... depends on how you view CJ and his contract. He's the Tobias Harris of 2 guards. I'd like their backcourt with Lonzo and CJ a LOT!!! CJ and Grahamn... I guess if Ingram and Zion are healthy that works okay.

I just think they have a lot of guys that aren't great at creating for others. Zion excepted.

I guess I’m going against the grain here but I really don’t get what Portland is doing. The returns for what they sent out in this deal and the Covington deal are just underwhelming as hell. I guess they’re trying to get out of bad contracts but still. Throwing Nance in this deal seems unnecessary, CJ for the rest of that package is fair.

I don't like McCollum's deal, but Jonas and Graham are on pretty friendly deals. Combined, they make $25. Then add in that Herb Jones is on a sweetheart of a deal, and Zion is making less than $15 this year and next. Also, they brought in Nance who is a good bargain.

Financially, this team works AND they still have extra first rounders from the Lakers and Bucks in upcoming drafts. Hard to knock what they did. I admire them for trying to be relevant.

According to Woj, this will leave Portland with as much as $60 million in cap space and a $21 million trade exception. I think their attempts at retooling are doomed, but I honestly love what they’re trying. Love it.
