I think that was a Jazzfanz generated rumor because it doesn't work. GS has to match salary. I don't think that rumor has any credibility at all. The only way to do it would be Looney/Moody (after 30 days)/EP for Joe... that is a deal I don't even think the most homerific Jazzfan member thinks is fair. It also would end up adding like $25M to the luxury tax for GS. So we can go ahead and just kill that rumor.

Articles like this are so ignorant.

If the article was - "player ratings by their standards", then there is some merit to this article.

But just using a blanket rating for our players and saying....
Conley gets an A for "playing good for his age" and Don gets a B for being held to a different standard.

It was a real rumor. I remember reding articles about it and I believe Andy Larsen even discussed it on Spence Checketts show. I believe the scenario you mentioned of Looney/Moody and EP is what was being discussed.

If that was truly offered (I still don't believe it) and Quin vetoed it... then he can eff straight off. It literally would add like $30M in luxury tax alone from the GS side. They also need to find a starting center at that point.

No way to know if this is the specific trade that Quin vetoed, it could've been a completely different deal with a different team...this was a real rumor that was floating around though, not just made up by someone here at Jazzfanz.

that's fine and I was up in the woods during this time in the summer so likely missed it. While it was a rumor I wonder if it was leaked from our side to increase his trade value... or if it was "hey I know the Jazz made offer X" but didn't say they got laughed off the phone.

Kinda like how Philly every other day is like "The Lakers want to give AD and Lebron for Ben but we just wants some picks too".

That wasn't a Jazzfanz-generated rumor. That was a local media-generated rumor. Maybe other pieces were included to balance salary.

I don’t know, and I don’t know **** about these guys, but I do have some questions about Smart’s value and I’m not as high in it as others. More importantly, whether true or not, I think we’ve been traumatized by the DL era of having to pay too much on deals that we expect that. We’re like the dog that comes home from the shelter and cowers like you’re going to beat him at the slightest trigger because that’s the set expectation. I believe @fishonjazz knows something about this. So whereas we would expect DL to be trying to include all our draft picks in deals, we now have someone else who would be saying, “No, **** you. I want two first rounders!”
