What's new

Trade Deadline

His contract will be a bargain compared to what is handed out this summer. He doesn't fit, but I still think you could get more. He was being used as a SF and is best used as a stretch 4 combo type forward. If they just wanted to get off his contract I think they could have gotten picks or something better. I think they are stopping short on their rebuild in a panic to win now. Glad the Jazz have more vision than this.

According to Zach Lowe Harris is "divisive players in the league among front office types".

I dont think the trade was a panic/win now trade. I think it was just "let's clear cap room so we have more money this FA to go after players that are actually worth money". Harris isnt worth 16 million even in the new CBA.

I've been thinking about Oladipo. I'm just not sure how he fits into things here having Hayward and Hood. I guess if you trade out Burke and Burks and take back Oladipo as a combo guard?

When every NBA guy reporting on this comes back and verifies that there are no picks included in the deal then you know it was a bad deal. While having a down year he is still top 15 in RPM for small forwards. I'd love him as a third big even though he's highly paid. They could have done a salary dump in the offseason when every team has cap space if they found a player interested in going there. Clearing the space without knowing what you can bring in is iffy when there are more dollars than players available this offseason.

Payton/Oladipo/Gordon are not good shooters... Fournier is too small to play SF. That lineup is less good to me than with Harris.

Gordon is a PF, he doesnt have to be a great shooter. He has shown improvement in his career though from where he started.

Oladipo can shoot, his problem has been shot selection.

Payton has shown an ability to hit 3pt shots. He still doesnt take a lot, but he is also trending up.

Vucevic is a pretty good midrange shooter I believe. I dont know his stats, but he is usually on whenever he plays the Jazz it seems.

Fournier isnt too small to play SF. That is an absurd comment. Is his size ideal for a SF? No, but there are plenty of smaller players spending time at the 3.

This lineup is definitley beter on paper than Harris. Their defense gets better simply by taking Harris out of the equation.

This lineup nearly beat the Spurs https://espn.go.com/nba/boxscore?id=400828677

Bested the Hawks twice in a row https://espn.go.com/nba/boxscore?id=400828667 https://espn.go.com/nba/boxscore?id=400828658

A huge part of the trade is freeing up time for the much more talented Hezonja also. He is there SF of the future. Ideally their future wings are Fournier/Hezonja with Oladipo being a 6th man.

Knicks looking for rotational guys on expiring deals. What about Booker for Jose Calderon? Maybe Utah adds in one of their many 2nd rounders. Calderon is a good shooter and veteran who can help secure the PG situation for the playoff push.
I might do that

You know that no one wanted Harris that badly because he is overpaid. Orlando was smart to get out of it. Tweeners who can't shoot or defend aren't good for your team.

Memphis packing it in?

May be they've given up on making the playoffs? But then again Courtney Lee has been in and out of the starting line up with Barnes starting at SG...

CHA on the other hand just lost MKG and wants to make the playoffs this year.. they have really struggled with injuries this year.

Out of curiosity, who do you think will start at PG? Peyton or Jennings?
