Trade Deadline

I just looked up jones numbers. They are not very good.
Almost every single stat is down this year. He isn't playing much and shooting bad from the field, bad from three, and bad from the line.
(45%, 31%, and 67%)

On second thought, I'm with thee. Just develop and play lyles

While I think Jones might have the higher celling due to greater athletic ability. I think Lyles will be a more sophisticated offensive player, and always playing next to Rudy or Favors, his defensive flaws can be somewhat covered up. I've been his biggest supporter since before the draft. He's shooting better then I ever thought he would this year, which tells me he could end up being quite good from three and midrange.

I will add that while Jones has a higher celling, I do think Lyles will be the better player. No need to get Jones as filler. Better to upgrade by replacing CJ.

Ya I'm with ya. I would rather play lyles than jones

I'm gonna be so let down if we don't do any trades. It would be like a girl talking a big game, coming into my bedroom, letting me feel her up and kiss her all over but then she never reciprocates and I'm left with blue ones.

Who else might be interested in Burke+Pleiss if the Rockets are just going to waive Lawson? Doubt there'd be many other teams willing or able to claim him before he clears waivers. Jazz just have to move some salary to be able to claim if that's what they want to do.

I feel like teams who are trying to win it all often look for a solid backup point.

Cavs-Mo, Dellavedova
Dubs-Barbosa, Livingston
Thunder-Augustin, Payne
Spurs-Mills, McCallum

I see only these four teams as having a chance to win it all and while they wouldn't say it, I think the other 26 teams probably feel the same way. Having said that, I don't see any of these teams desiring Trey so I think our best bet may be to trade Trey and Pleiss to a team looking to dump salary. The problem with that is Trey and Pleiss are both signed for next year so we'd likely have to take someone on who's longer term than that or more in salary than that.

Don't know how reliable this site is but its looking like Utah won't make the deal with Houston.

The author got one key detail very wrong. If Lawson is waived, he can be claimed by a team with enough cap space to absorb his contract. That is, Ty won't necessarily get to choose where he plays if he's waived. If the Jazz are able to dump Trey and Pleiss without taking salary back, they'd have the cap space to claim Lawson.

Also, the more I think about this trade, the less I like it. If the Jazz can't extract an additional asset in a Trey+Pleiss for Lawson deal, it might be better to pass. That is, unless they feel they have to move Trey.

It'd be a bit embarrassing to have to dump top-10 picks in consecutive years.

If Memphis is in sell mode (which they appear to maybe be) and knows they aren't going to re-sign Conley (I'm not saying they know that), would they do Burke, Pleiss, Booker, and OKC 1st for Conley, Green and Ellis? They get a young point guard and 1st for Conley's who expiring anyway. We get him for a half season and correct me if I'm wrong, his Bird Rights.

So if it's up to Lawson it looks like he chooses Utah or gambles on a crap shoot that could land him anywhere.

Bird rights won't be terribly important this offseason. Lots of teams will have space to sign Conley, including the Jazz.

Not sure it's worth losing the OKC 1st/2nd for a player who might walk.
