That's the key part of the equation. WE can say Favors, Gobert and Kanter would be a great combo, but one has to be willing to come off the bench. Going forward, I don't think that's Rudy; he's said he wants to be a starter and he SHOULD start at the 5. Favors has shown he can be a 20/10 player (or close to it) at the PF position. Booker is developing into a decent shooter; he can be our third or fourth big. And the Jazz can draft a player like WCS or Turner to get the minutes at the 5 behind Gobert.

How is Stauskas on defense?

Not sure how his defense is.

I'm pretty sure he'll be a good offensive player though. He's still really young, and he show a lot of promise in his passing and dribbling. And we all know he's a really good shooter.

Anyone who thinks Stauskas is a bust already is dumb. He's just not getting playing time in Sacramento.


I think he's an intelligent guy and could probably learn to play good team defense. But with Rudy and Favors, we can afford to have some more offensive minded players. Especially a shooter. I know we have Hood, but having both can't hurt. 2 is probably enough of the pure shooter types, but I wouldn't say 1 is. So I don't think since we have Hood that we should count Stauskas out. It would be nice to have some really good shooters on the team.

No matter how hard you try, you can't brush off the fact that his main problem is getting physically outmatched.

3 more years on a rookie contract and you can always not pick up his option if he ends up being a clear bust.

Honestly, that would really be Sacramento. They need some effective bigs in the worst way. Knowing that, it still amazes me that they drafted Stauskas. Imagine if they had somehow acquired Gobert to pair with Cousins. I floated the idea of trading Gobert to them for their pick plus us taking salary so they could resign Thomas. They all thought that was ridiculous. Turns out that it was. . .

However, I think the Jazz - if they do eventually trade Enes - won't pull the trigger until after the draft (S&T or next season). If they did trade Enes now for a wing, they'd probably be locked into drafting a big. I think they'll want to keep their options open. If Johnson is the BPA, you take him and have a great rotation of Hayward, Burks and Johnson, with Hood and Ingles behind those three. Trade for Stauskas and that would be too many wings if you picked up another in the draft. Jazz would need to take someone like Porzingis, WCS or Turner to replace Enes in the rotation (provided Utah doesn't win a top-3 pick).

Or, you can do like winning teams do and draft a youngster you don't have to force into the starting lineup right away. That way you can develop high lottery guys with quality minutes on the bench to see what you have and then make good decisions based on performance rather than potential. If the Jazz swap out Kanter for a quality wing, it doesn't mean they are forced to take a big. If we trade Kanter for a Rookie contract guy we would have some money to sign a bench big with little problem.

How about Enes for Patrick Patterson? He is #8 in the NBA in 3pt%. Definite stretch.

"It opened up my game. Had I not stayed with DeMarcus (Cousins) and John (Wall), I would have come out as a 6'8 center. A guy who had never stepped out to the three-point line or even taken an 18' jump shot, I would be pretty much a version of Chuck (Hayes), but not as strong and not as wide. That would have been my game, just around the basket and then I would have had to start from scratch when I got to the NBA. Coming back with John and DeMarcus and Calipari is definitely the reason that I am the type of player I am today."

Kanter and Cousins make no sense to pair together. I don't think he is someone the Kings want to pay.
