Trade Okur for Gortat if Boozer is re-signed

It’s Okur who needs to go, if at all possible. The Jazz could still keep Boozer’s scoring and rebounding if they can find a defensive big to play alongside him.

Okur to Orlando for Gortat. The Magic also trade another player, probably S&T Reddick, to an under-the-cap team to match salaries.

Orlando let go of the underused Gortat and get an outside shooting big, the role played by the fantastically-paid Rashard Lewis, who can then move back down to SF.

From the Jazz perspective, Gortat has the longer contract but a smaller one, reducing the impact on their payroll and/or tax should Boozer be re-signed. And from the Magic perspective, Okur has the bigger contract but a shorter one, ending around the time they need to re-sign Howard.

From the admittedly little I’ve seen of Gortat in the past, he has looked mobile and can defend, rebound and block shots. Here’s a guess: He’ll be better than Aldrich! Gortat, who’ll be 26, has not had his chance playing behind Howard but he could be that defensive big who’s realistically obtainable that the Jazz could play alongside Boozer.

Why would they want Memo? They could probably get something less risky and all around better.
From what I can tell, some Magic fans, including one who's taken to blogging (link) think their team likes their PF playing alongside Howard to be able to shoot outside out to 3 -- currently that's Lewis but that could be Memo. The Magic are paying a lot to Gortat to back up Howard for a dozen minutes or so but Memo might be able to start for them. Not too many suitors for either Gortat or Okur I reckon but together they could be a viable trading match.

Without a legit C we are done for the season anyway. We have an inconsistent Millsap who is great for some games and then disappears in others. Plus he is undersized. I like Paul a lot. But without a defense center we are DONE. Maybe we will squeak into the playoffs and exit the first round.

Why would Magic trade for Okur? He may not even play this year. His career might be done. How would that help them at all?

Where'd you get the news that Okur's injury is career-ending? Isn't he supposed to be back by the season opener or thereabouts?

Just saying Okur if traded would not play for first two or three months of season. When back he may never be what he was. Too early to tell right now. What team that's a legit contender would trade for such a player.

I'm sure teams will just be lining up jumping at the chance to get a 30+ year old center coming off one of the worst sports injuries an athlete could have.

When did he get surgery? Achilles surgeries take how long to recover from? 9 months approx? Don't think he'll be back for opener. Thought that was already known. But could be wrong.
