Trade Rumors Involving the Jazz

If they get that, I’m excited to watch the ensuing apologetics from both fans and media personnel on how 1) that deal wasn’t available then and 2) something something Olynyk value and 3) Bojan’s value went up now that he got an extension that we couldn’t/wouldn’t give and 4) the draft pick they got really isn’t good anyway and 5) it’s Detroit lol and 6) we have tons of picks already and 7) nobody could have ever predicted that [insert team] would be that stupid and offer that and 8) first round picks don’t typically pan out anyway and 9) the value of the Euro has dropped relative to USD and that hadn’t happened yet when we traded him so it totally reset value that nobody could have seen coming and 10) we could probably deal Olynyk for a better pick on draft night and 11) etc. and 12) etc. and 13) trading for Olynyk made sense because everyone is just a keyboard GM.

I still believe that we were planning on tanking but were surprised (like everyone) with our great start.
I might argue that if DA was planning to tank he wouldn't have traded for a journeyman vet such as KO. He's fallen off a cliff recently but his shooting did help keep them in games at the beginning of the season.

Maybe it's all hearsay but it also bugged me to read about all the supposed interest in Bog and the high price Detroit is now asking. If Danny was going to basically give him away he should've at least sent him to a team that wasn't going to flip him at the deadline. It likely makes it more difficult to sell their wares for value when there are other quality pieces like Bog on the trade block.

Some of us complained that Detroit would do exactly that.

I think that we had an agreement with Bojan that we would trade him before training camp, and we took the most financially beneficial trade for Ryan that we could get. The fact that we couldn't even extract a second out of that deal shows that we were pretty committed to both things and weren't in a position of leverage.

Why would we have an agreement with Bojan and, if we did, why were we obligated to compromise our own position for a verbal agreement to a player that has no bearing? It doesn't sound very Ainge-like and, if true, would be the first documented time he's ever done something like that, with lots of other very specific scenarios going the other way. I wouldn't doubt that some would push that narrative after the fact, though, where there's a vacuum of rational answers on why the deal was made that "Ainge being a gentleman" is able to occupy that space.

Note on John Collins: He has a player option in 2025. I have no interest in giving up draft picks for a guy that could bug out in 2.5 years.

With that logic we won’t be in the market for anyone besides young guys who will be restricted free agents.
