This is the year for it though. I’m opposed to seeing the Pelicans luck their way into a top 4 pick because the Lakers suck this year. Would much rather see both of them out of the top 4 and the Jazz end up swapping for whichever pick ups lower.

And, they could’ve had them from GAME 1. Tell me that swapping those three for Westbrook before the start of the season doesn’t dramatically change the trajectory of both teams this year?

I mean, I guess. It'll be quite interesting what will unfold before trade deadline.
 
I get the feeling this is going to be like the Donovan trade where it seemed like the NY deal was all but done but then something crazy happens.
 
My guess here is that despite the league-wide interest, Ainge was only getting offers of second rounders for Vanderbilt. In Ainge calculus, Conley's stock will never be as high again, and he prefers the first-rounder that has a chance of being very high to a cornucopia of second rounders.
