Trade Rumors Involving the Jazz

Dominique Wilkins was in that time frame too but it's hard to know where we would have drafted if we had those guys. If we had Magic and maybe Dominique would we have been able to draft Stockton or Malone? Would have been a monster team.
Both Stock and Malone were later in the draft so it is a distinct possibility. Magic, Nique and Malone would have been a big 3 for the ages for sure.

There was a rumor we could have traded for Magic, or something. We did "trade" for Goodrich. So it fits...like a square peg in a toothpick sized hole, but fits nonetheless!

Ignoring the fact that future drafts could have turned out differently if Nique had played here, the Jazz could have started Stockton, Griffith, Nique, Malone and Eaton at some point and have Rickey Green and Big T off the bench.

Isn’t that how we got Gail Goodrich?
Yeah basically we signed Goodrich and the league required compensation to be paid to the other team, so they got 2 of our first round picks and one second round pick. And one of the 1st round picks happened the be the only overall #1 pick we would ever see and that became Magic Johnson. Although there is some minor controversy as there are rumors there was a gentleman's agreement they wouldn't take the pick if it ended up being the #1 overall, but since we got it through a coin flip and it wasn't directly our own #1 the league gave it to the Lakers. I have nothing to back that up other than that was the scuttlebutt for years after it happened in the early 80's, not sure if anyone else remembers that part. Would be interested to know. Could be entirely Utah urban legend, but it is enough to help us hate the Fakers even more.

Was there ever a rumor of the Jazz trading for the memory of Clifton McNeely? What would that trade package look like? Trade the rights to AD and Ante Tomic and throw in Larry's Driven book?

Except that wasn't the "deal." The Jazz signed Goodrich as a free agent. The NBA stepped in later and took the Jazz pick and gave it to the Lakers. The Jazz had no say in the matter whatsoever. Mostly they were afraid of sending another Star to die there like what happened wit Maravich. Late 70's NBA was majorly sketchy.
The nba stepped in and made the jazz send the picks but they were future picks. There was no way of knowing what picks they would be so they definitely didn't go out of there way to stop Magic from going to the jazz.
