Trade Rumors Involving the Jazz

This ain't a tanking roster. We really should have done some version of the Lakers deal.
If the NBA sucked I would agree, but the NBA is so good and so deep right now, I really dont think it will be a struggle to be a bottom 5 team. We might be the 4th/5th worst instead of the worst, but at the end of the day the ultimate goal is still the exact same % chance of happening either way.

The thing about our roster is that our defense is likely going to be awful. We just dont have much defensive talent outside of Vanderbilt and we have several players who are known for being bad defenders.

Not only is it not a tanking roster, but it's also going to take developmental minutes away from the young guys. Tony also said that the Jazz have high hopes for Gay this season because he is fully healthy and they're hoping he can bounce back. So, we're going to have 4 guys over 30 that aren't in the long-term plans in Conley, Clarkson, Gay and Olynyk all in the rotation and likely playing major minutes.

I mean, Clarkson could be in the long-term plans, possibly Olynyk too.

I wouldn't be shocked if Clarkson finishes his career in Utah and signs an extension at some point. I wouldnt be shocked if we retain KO past his current contract.

The Gay thing definitely sucks. Utah is going to present a positive face on Gay for the public though. I'm sure Utah wants to trade him. Gay is a pretty easy bet for the most hated player on the team this year.

I dont think we will see huge minutes for anyone on the roster. I expect a lot of guys to play.

Come on, man. The guys who put these rosters together are professionals. This is what they do all day. They know what they’re doing and if what you’re seeing doesn’t make sense, it’s because you can’t see the big picture like they can. All of this is for sure for the best, because at this level you don’t make mistakes. It’s impossible to make it that far making mistakes or being careless. Never mind the fact that in a couple months we completely tore down everything the previous administration built up over a decade because it didn’t work out. And realize that no executives or franchises are below average. They’re run by pros. These guys are in the 99.9%tile. None of these guys finish in the bottom half. There isn’t even such thing as a lottery. All teams reach the finals.

I hope not. I don't think Clarkson's game will age well at all...as soon as he loses some of his athleticism and speed, I think he falls off a cliff.

Not sure what Jazz will do with Gay
Maybe new coach Hardy will give Gay more support and Gay will play much better

He doesnt rely on huge amounts of explosion though. His athletic gifts are more nimbleness which typically age better. Look how guys like Lou Williams/Jamal Crawford/Eric Gordon have aged.

I'm not a huge Clarkson fan and would overall rather have him gone, but fans love him and he seems to be a positive influence. It will be interesting to see how the new coaching staff handles him since the whole thing was Quin giving freedom is what made him good. Hopefully that freedom gets reeled back in a tad bit and he gets his 3pt shooting stroke back this year.

We are headed for a Ty Corbin season. We will see if Hardy can avoid the temptation to rely on the vets... but coaches generally try to win games. Thibs in NY is a great example. Knicks fans would love to see IQ/Toppin more, but as long as they have Rose, Randle, Fournier... guess what... those other dudes gonna take a back seat. Get ready for too much time for Raja Bell and Richard Jefferson.

Hardy might be willing to take a bigger development approach... but I won't be surprised if we showcase the vets... it turns into a few extra wins... then all of a sudden we are gunning for the play-in Kings style. Good news is the schedule is tough to start the season so we may be in a big enough hole to start that we can pull the plug with the vets early.

@Saint Cy of JFC mentioned the team will be decent offensively... and I agree... those types of teams (like the Kings had) tend to win a couple extra games when other teams aren't shooting straight.

I really can't see us keeping both JC and Sexton long term... they are going to be horrible together.
