Charlotte doesn't really want to pay PJ Washington. They want to pay Bridges and Ball. That's why PJ could be available. Mason Plumlee is just another guy. Charlotte likes Rozier though.
Charlotte really, really wants to move Hayward, but that's a tough contract to move.
Jazz aren't going to trade Mitchell right now, and certainly not for that package.
But they want to trade a better player for a worse package?
I get what you are saying and agree it's probably closer to reality, but it's wrong.
Mitchell is an All Star, and he's box office. Teams will pay for it, especially if it helps said team attract a big free agent.

Gobert is a generational talent and one of the best defenders of all time and will have a much better career than Mitchell when it's said and done. At the end of the day, Gobert is the main player who created Mitchell. If Gobert didnt exist, Mitchell wouldn't have been able to make his historic rise as a rookie (which is what got him his shoe deal, put him in the national attention, let him get to the playoffs where he was able to handle an absurd amount of volume scoring). I think Gobert can do that again if we let him and do good work in the draft (trust in Ainge).
It's utter lunacy that we are even thinking about building around Mitchell, but it is what it is. I still have hope that Ainge is a mad genius and he's formulating a master tank or a master re-tool around Gobert.

We can't say for sure who will be able available at 13/15, but there will be potential wins out there. Maybe you can get a Mathurin/Dieng. Maybe a Sochan drops to 13 (though doubtful). Maybe a Johnny Davis. A Tari Eason. A Jalen Williams. There'd be a lot of options to add wing players who have some starter upside.
Hell maybe you can force more out of Charlotte and get someone like Kelly Oubre while they take back Gay/NAW. You obviously try to move Conley just for more depth pieces (or maybe just the Levert deal as rumored earlier). There'd be a lot of options.
I think if the Jazz are being realistic, they're not trying to build around either Rudy or Donovan. Neither is a true franchise player that can lead a team to the WCF or Finals. The two of them could be parts 2 and 3 to a Big 3, but the Jazz don't have part #1.
The problem is that the Jazz don't have the assets to acquire a true franchise player. So they're going to have to trade at least one of their current stars. Jazz should have known this 2 years ago, when Mitchell was still on rookie-scale.

The thing to me though is that Gobert will give you more wins. He will make the players you are able to require better. I totally acknowledge there is some degree of a playoff hit Gobert takes, but I still think the odds of the Jazz performing well in the playoffs is higher with a Gobert led team w/ pieces you get from a Mitchell trade than a Mitchell led team w/ pieces you get from a Gobert trade.
So I really dont get the point of building around Mitchell other than the fact that he is more popular.
I mean, that obviously wouldn't be the final team. I just have the time or energy to go through and figure out the most optimal trades for who needs to be moved out of Conley/Clarkson/Bogey.
I think it could potentially be a better team than we had this previous year, and it would be a team that would improve over the next 2-3 years. It would also be a team with more flexibility for moves.
(and like I've said many times I prefer a tank, but I prefer a Mitchell trade over a Gober trade)
Mitchell is better than you make him out to be. He's a legit, dynamic lead guard. He just can't carry a franchise. But in his defense, he's not playing with anyone who can create much for themselves. Put him next to a Jaylen Brown or Brandon Ingram, and he'd look like he's in his element.
