Incredible how this fan base can so incredibly overrate one player and completely disrespect the other.

Rudy was great. Don was great. The supporting cast was disappointing and the coaching was suspect.

Don can definitely be the main part of our successful future.

I agree that Mitchell is a generational talent in lots of ways. But his refusal to even try on defense the last 2 playoffs were really telling for me personally. That's not the guy I want to root for. And his refusal to play with Gobert on the court was telling as well. He's immature and overrated. He can be a great #2 but only a #2 because he isn't much of a complete player.

But I also agree that we botched the best years for these 2 from a team -building standpoint. The Conley trade was such a waste. The Favors debacle. Very poor drafting choices. It isn't entirely on Gobert and Mitchell, it's far more on the FO and the coaching staff imo. Which is why they are all gone.

But I do not believe building around Mitchell will get us any more than we have already had. I think we've already had the best around him we are likely to get. Unless he chooses to take a step to becoming a more complete player, both on defense and in his playmaking, then anything we put around him now won't be any better than having a perennial DPOY candidate. Might as well cut our losses, accept that this iteration of the jazz was a failure, and move on entirely.

Bridges, CP, Cam Johnson, Crowder and others make life much easier than what we had.

I would agree with this for sure. My issue is it takes a lot of god given luck to build this type of supporting cast. Hard to do in Utah.

He didn’t have to be, especially these past few years. It’s interesting how the “need” for him to be the primary scorer has increased while the weapons around him have increased in number. Almost like he’s become a selfish stat stuffer.

Pretty sure that was the whole premise of my previous post. Spida is not the guy you want to build your franchise around. Basketball is a team sport.

Your eyeballs. Perhaps you need glasses. It wasn't the need for him to be the primary scorer, it was a directive of the coach. Besides Bogie and JC who else would it be. Both Bogie and JC are not number one options. Sarcasm isn't a defense of your position. There are a handful of players in the league that can be franchise centered players. However a player like DM is certainly a big part of making a championship team. The Jazz would have never beaten OKC in the playoffs without DM, nor would they have been the number one seed. Does DM have flaws? Yes but there is a reason why mulitiple teams want him on there team and why the Jazz are reluctant to trade him. Nevertheless, if DM wants out then I would trade him. I would even trade him if they got a great package because the Jazz are in a rebuild mode.

I want Ayton.

Me too, but I just want him as a piece for a rebuild. I don’t want him and Don together. I could see force feeding Ayton into an all star with him and Conley running the pick and roll constantly. Up his value and trade Conley at the break to a contender or wherever he wants. Just keep wheelin and dealin with the expirings etc. Jazz are gonna have to pay somebody, so I don’t understand why people would be down on a guy like Ayton. He’s got length, athleticism, and potential. If you don’t like those attributes you haven’t watched enough basketball.

Ayton on a two year (very tradeable) deal at the right terms is smart if we’re not trading any picks somehow to get him.

I want nothing to do with a 2yr deal for Ayton because we will have a to give up at least 1 first for him. I want him locked into a 4 year deal with a team option on the 4th year.

Wasn’t there some drama before the last game? I don’t think Ayton played in that game or played sparingly. I remember the Suns coach really refusing to talk about it. But there were rumors about Ayton…

This one is weird? Why trade for Ayton if we will be sending Mitchell away? Seems like we would be losing on value ... Unless he comes incredibly cheap and is more of a flyer(salary filler) you take on high potential...
